Re: laptops
My daughter will be going back to third form with a laptop, all be it an old one of ours. I think it is an excellent move to upgrade the wifi. We never buy expensive laptops, and there are very good netbooks and windows enabled android tablets which are relatively inexpensive, it doesn't have to be ...

Re: laptops
Oh, I can see I'm going against the popular opinion, but I see this as a fantastic step forward. My dd has been seriously hindered by a dodgy computer in the house homework room with poor printer connection and a faulty spellcheck/grammar check. Much of the children's research comes through the comp...

The drum majors always come from Middleton A. Dd thinks the ceremonial drummers come from Maine.

Re: 3rd form German trip
I totally agree, Ineedacoffee. My daughter was also not one if the 'chosen' ones. One girl in her house was, the other 4 were not. They all sent their forms and cheques in and were very excited about it when they came back from half term. I am very angry about it. There was no indication either in t...

Re: Contributions
Well, we have just had a 11% increase. That on a smaller income than last year. I honestly have no idea why the increase should be that large!

Re: It's still tough
CH dad, sorry to hear that your son wobbled this weekend. I hope he is ok now. I didn't realise that they chose the gcse's so soon. We asked my dd who is in second form what she thought she'd like to take, or do in the future. Before CH she had very strong ideas, but at the moment she is enjoying al...

Can't help, but I sent dd off with hers 'just in case' . ( but you would need a mouthguard for my flapjacks, they're always awful )

Re: It's still tough
I'm sitting here with 15 mins until the end of prep, when dd will ring, and I'm really excited at the thought! This holiday has been very different to the others, she's grown up such a lot over this 3 weeks, and she was desperate to be back at school, to be busy and see her friends, and to learn - e...

Re: Tower of London
Sorry about dragging up an older thread, but we went, dd and I and another friend from 2nd Form. They changed into full Housey before catching the tube across London, and were very self conscious at first. The tower was fantastic, and all 3 of us got in for free, had a excellent afternoon exploring,...

Re: Allowed Expenses
Hmmm - the council tax, buildings insurance and water bill don't look as they are deducted any longer. Has the formula for the bursary included them, do you think? Or are our bills all going up??

Re: Leave weekends
But what about actives, and the film nights/discos/in house nights?
Dd hasn't heard this, but has said that she wouldn't want to come home every weekend! ( she wants to go back to school already . I'm sure this is a good thing )

Re: How much
No, it's not a lot - certainly less than my dd who takes way more civvies ! She's just about packed for home already  And my dd gets really annoyed with herself if she drops to an A in room inspection. What with that, learning to knit, learning to hand wash, and the adding of hot water to pot...

Re: How much
My dd seems to take quite a few civvies, But everything fits completely into her desk and wardrobe. She has some coathangers, and some storage boxes that zip together from ikea and fit the wardrobe cubby holes perfectly. We bought a clothes hook that hangs over the side of the bunk for her winter ci...
