Re: Leave Days in Horsham

This thread has taken a distinctly nauseous turn! Perhaps a new thread should be started entitled "Hangovers I have had" or "Projectile vomiting adventures"? :drinkers: :drinkers:

Re: Leave Days in Horsham

Going to the cinema was forbidden by the school, for fear that germs would be picked up and redistributed at CH later on... Seriously? That sounds ridiculous, but at the same time strangely plausible, though I have no memory of such a prohibition. Then again, I have no specific memories of Saturday...

Re: RIP Tom Jeffers 1944-2020

It is important to remember with all the disgrace around the scandals at CH that teachers like Mr Jeffers were also there, and they should not be eclipsed by the darkness of those wretched few. These words, together with the numerous tributes in this thread and elsewhere, speak volumes about the li...

Re: What is CH for these days?

Finances apart, CH is, as it has always been, for paupers. Children from broken homes or orphans in childrens homes. If you can afford full fees, then your children have opportunity. They don't need CH. one slight element to the above; the fee is based on your income for the individual year. When i...

Behind the Manual School??? That's shocking, depriving pupils of one of the nearest smoking spots.

Re: The school glider

Incidentally, some of those in the RAF Section at that time may well have made their first flight, as I did, in a 2-seater De Haviland Chipmunk trainer on an RAF Section Field Day at White Waltham RAF station near Maidenhead. Anybody else who had that experience may like to know that, if they flew ...

Re: Where does the word "Toyce" come from?

Well done on your 'toys' research, but I must take issue with you on the following: ... rather pretentiously called the Senior Classics Don, bit like addressing the teachers at Hogwarts as Professor. There is nothing pretentious about Hogwarts teachers being addressed as professor as they all have c...

Re: Robert Sillett MBE of Billingshurt

What does giving tangents mean? Using a ruler, striking downwards edgewise in a slicing motion, so tangentially (?) on the body rather than directly. I've confused myself with this description, so I hope it makes sense! Also, apologies for accidentally 'liking' your post, and then removin...

The McDaids! How could I have forgotten them? Paddy, Mick and... erm... McDaid Junior. Mid B. I have fond memories of Mick, who was my contemporary, particularly propping against him. I believe he joined the Hong Kong police.

Re: I.A.R. Christie, Lamb A 1956-63

Pop quiz: which family had the most brothers at CH? In my day, the Savages. 3 (or 4?). Also in your day 3 Farnfields. I remember the Farnfields well, but perhaps not as well as I thought, as I only remember 2 of them! Pete was in the year above me, and became a very impressive Band Captain (is that...
