Christmas songs when it's not Christmas

OK who else finds themselves listening to Christmas songs when it's not Christmas? I put some onto my music collection around Christmastime, and let it play on loop, and now when a Christmas song comes around, I very occasionally consciously don't skip it! I love Christmas music but don't want to ta...

Nederlandse supermarkten zijn niet wie onze!

Mmm the best thing about Dutch supermarkets (especially Albert Heijn (http://www.ah.nl)) is a wonderful product called vla. Sadly it is unique to the Netherlands so difficult to describe, but anyone who knows it knows what I mean (though that's obvious, oopsy). It is simply my favourite food/drink i...

Re: Things you brought with you from home.

What I had from the beginning of my UF onwards, and still have at the centre-front of the shelf in my room here in Italy, is a football league ladder . Basically, an A4-sized bit of card, folded around the outside into a pentagon, with the 4 professional tiers of the English league plus the SPL (Sco...

Io sono in Italia at the moment, at the beginning of a four-month stint. In Gorizia. Not particularly near Milan, but PM coming your way anyway.

Re: Australian attitude to immigration

I'm pro-immigration, indeed I'm an immigrant myself at the moment, in Italy. I think the world would be a better place without such hostile and restrictive borders. I'm pro-immigration but I also am happy to see what was said. I believe strongly that people should have the right of choice to move to...

Re: The Houseblock Lofts

When I was on my LE I lived in 'top north' dormitory, by the fire escape stairs (which we were allowed to use completely as normal stairs). For about a week there were some builders doing something up there. Only upon reading this thread has it sprung to mind the idea of 'exploring' them. I'm surpri...

Re: First Day.....Last Day

Thanks :-) One does ones best, and I like to think I had one of the more unual last evenings/mornings! I enjoyed writing a little about it as it brings back memories (even if it was just a few years ago). Well done to White Flag for coming up with the idea for a thread, it's great to read everyone e...

Re: FORUM UPGRADE - now completed!

I logged on a few days ago for the first time in a few months, and was very impressed and pleasantly surprised with the new format. I think it's clearer and also easier and more pleasant on the eye. There is just one downside I have found: in the old version, if someone put on a link for another web...

Re: First Day.....Last Day

First day Stayed overnight in London as I had come up from Devon; got the train down with lots of other new people and my mother and grandmother. I was feeling pretty mopey but did what was needed such as fitting on the uniform and checking in with housemaster and matrons. On the bunch of photos tha...

They said that because I had A-Levels, they wouldn't have expected me to apply for that job. The job was only open to university students. So that would be a university that has students with no A-levels or equivalent qualifications. Someone really hasn't thought this one through. Exactly! Ridiculo...

To me it's a no-brainer. Of course it would be great to have an Old Blue in such a position. Seems very foolish to turn one down so dismissively, as Kerren reports. I'm not saying that it must be an Old Blue, but they'd be automatically a lot more qualified for the job, knowing about the school from...

...but it is only a few days for something that offends a religion... But does it offend a religion? There seem to be many more Muslims who are saying that this case is pathetic and ridiculous than those who are saying it is justified. And the aid question is difficult. I agree in part with cutting...

Sudanese cuddly toys...

It seems the debating point at the moment so thought I'd bring it up and see what people have on here have to say about it! Seems rather unfortunate if you ask me, and will increase Islamophobia, even though a huge number of ordinary, righteous, moderate Muslims see the punishment as overreactionary...

I've just read through each and every comment on this thread and they all make fascinating reading. I did experience some bullying, but certainly not comparable to some of the stories here of days gone by. I found that the bullies seemed to be in denial that they were doing anything wrong. They said...
