Re: Herts Memories

I thought Lesley was in 4s! I agree with Marilyn and April Kelly. I can’t find Liz Richards, considering how much time I spent with her in the VI form I find that surprising. I wish I could remember the name of the girl at the end of the row Ruth is on (8s side). Margaret? I think she was hit on the...

Re: Herts Memories

Chrissy, have you seen the photo of 7s in Ruth’s link, so many familiar faces - that I can no longer put names to! I don’t remember any house photos in 6s, how about 3s?

Re: Herts Memories

Oh yes, I remember wearing uniform for interview. I had smuggled in a pair of nylons to wear instead of our Sunday silk stockings! As the start of the four term year coincided with my entry into the Senior VI, we did get some preparation for the exams. We had the full eight weeks of the autumn term ...

https://www.politicshome.com/thehouse/article/my-school-memory-parliamentarians-mps-peers-classroom Thanks, Ruth. I think you left at the end of my first year, 1960. I don’t remember being told not to apply to LSE, but do remember that New Hall were looking for a different kind of girl from a CH on...

Re: Films at CH, 1956-1960

That was my first year at Hertford, my brother was at Horsham then, we had the same term dates then. His birthday is 26th July and wasn’t always home for it depending which day of the week it was, so I remember term ending late in July. I think start and end were always Friday and Tuesday, but have ...

Re: RADIO PROGRAMME

There are three programmes in all, one more to come, not available yet. I heard the second and thought of this forum.

I don’t remember the statue, but do remember looking for the site, we lived just north of Ware most of the time I was at CH.

Re: Housey special...

My train buff husband, not an OB, thinks it did, but can’t give dates! He’s just looked it up in wiki, apparently as a class they were often taken to the school for the naming ceremony and the pupils were allowed into the cab of their engine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SR_V_%22Schools%22_...

Re: Bursary question please

Welcome Icescream, unfortunately the parents side of this forum has declined and at the moment I don’t think there are any parents posting. Most of us who post attended the schools many many years ago so we won’t have any relevant information to help you. Is it possible to make enquiries from the sc...

Peter Padfield, naval historian

Yesterday I was listening to Last Word on Radio 4, one of the people they talked about was Peter Padfield a very respected naval historian who took part in a reconstruction of the voyage of the Mayflower. In passing they mentioned he’d been educated at CH.

I’ve just read George’s book and loved it. I’m sure others who have lived an expat life will love it, comparing it with their own experiences. I highly recommend it!

Re: Christmas Greetings

That’s made me smile, Otter thank you.

My younger son’s birthday is August 25th and from about the age of 8 he wanted a fixed date for Easter - April 25th, so the year would be neatly divided into thirds by the three major festivals - Christmas, Easter and his birthday!

Re: Freaky in the FT

Covid is making for an extraordinarily convenient smokescreen for the various problems that we are facing, especially the difficulties in healthcare, haulage, food supply and foreign travel. The overwhelming contributor to most of these problems is not Covid, it is Brexit. If one were to be very cy...
