Re: Attitudes to sports
Just read today that although today's young people are taller and heavier they are not so muscular, in spite of all that gym equipment. There's just less regular physical exercise to build up muscle than many of you had.

Re: Attitudes to sports
Well, that’s the first time I’ve been called Stalinist. It’s about phrasing and context, your original comment sounded deliberately inflammatory. My original comment was that Karim had transformed girls sport at CH. If anyone wants to contradict this, please do. I will argue with you very strongly....

And even these days the appalling jury system means that only 1/3 of rape cases end up with a conviction - which is only a small percentage of the rape accusations that are made, which in turn are a small percentage of the rapes that take place.

Re: Attitudes to sports
I object to the STALINIST tendencies of this site to stifle debate. It was Karim's excellence as a sports coach that enabled him to abuse. Both girls and staff were on his side as a result. Why should I be prevented from referring to that excellence in a threat about "attitudes to sport" s...

I was the first person to mention the Millfield abuse - to which you refer - on this site.

JR - I was just trying to say that Jonathan "Gripper" Davies - who was a colleague of mine for a very short time at CH - took a huge amount of time to make history FUN for his pupils !

Re: Attitudes to sports
I think I may be repeating a story I have told on another thread but it is relevant here. As the Hertford girls' school was run down sports was a major casualty and the attitude to sport of the girls who arrived in 1985 was appalling. I remember umpiring a girls' house hockey match in the early days...
