Re: prison releases
PEDs according to my calculations: These assume release at half way point if no prison infractions and then under supervision for the remainder of the sentence. Burr is different as he is serving an "extended" sentence because he is still considered a danger to children. Two thirds. Just ...

Re: CH, Degrees and PPE (not the Coronavirus sort)
I do agree with Scrub that CH has perhaps got locked into an unwinnable race with the posh schools. I would like to think that all schools could have a shot at the non-core subjects (if only in order to enrich their lives) but Michael Gradgrind Gove and his successors have decreed that the state sc...

Re: CH, Degrees and PPE (not the Coronavirus sort)
why the school these days has to employ what seem to be dedicated staff in sports, arts, drama, etc. There are multiple reasons why and I think that one of the biggest drivers is to keep up with parental expectations these days. This isn't just a CH-specific thing, but a UK-wide issue. A belief tha...

Re: Bishop Ball documentary BBC2 2100 TONIGHT
They shouldn't be allowed to call it "historical abuse" until they have PROVED it isn't still going on. The default assumption should be that it still is. No one currently or previously employed there has been able to give any substantial, concrete description of how safeguarding procedur...

Frank Ledwith
I bumped into Frank shortly after leaving CH. We were both staying in the same hotel in the Lake District. 'The Hollins' was exactly like Fawlty Towers. He was in the lounge after dinner surrounded by family and was holding court. It was obvious from what he was saying that he was an OB, so I signed...

John Perry I think.
Met us off the train when I first arrived and took over our woodwork class when Webb left.
Seemed a very meticulous and decent man.

Re: Charles Hazlewood
There were a number of very talented music scholars at that time. Chris Tambling, Charles, Adrian Bawtree. But the most talented was Piers Maxim, whom you have probably never heard of. His interest was and remains church music, so was never going to be mainstream. On my final day, Jeffers told the h...

Re: What is CH for these days?
Finances apart, CH is, as it has always been, for paupers. Children from broken homes or orphans in childrens homes. If you can afford full fees, then your children have opportunity. They don't need CH. one slight element to the above; the fee is based on your income for the individual year. When i...

Re: What is CH for these days?
One very, very expensive undertaking that upset me greatly was a Summer Holiday 'outing' of 14 days duration to Australia for 70-odd pupils and seven staff in (about) 2012-2013. I know that the Head Master at the time was an Australian by birth (but has now seen the light and settled in Sussex) but...
