Re: Address to the Governing Council help please
The Council members are listed here: https://www.christs-hospital.org.uk/about-ch/our-governance/ Rob, you need to park this, you must be exhausted, so imo get the ball absolutely in CHs court: "The Council includes the head of Internal Audit for the NHS. Where is CHs investigation and report ...

Re: Who Knew What?
So, reading the above posts about Dr Hoskins, I now have to take it that Dr Scott had no such psychiatric experience or knowledge. My personal view of 'Tommy' Scott was, "I can cure illnesses and warts, but I don't do 'personal problems'". Yes - I was a disturbed child at CH at 11 years o...

Re: Dobbie's departure
I actually thought it might alleviate the shock to some MidA OBs if it turned out that abuse did NOT occur in MidA during term time. This would not be inconsistent with the (admittedly incomplete) press reports of the trial. As been mentioned by others, Dobbie retained considerable loyalty from his...

Re: Did anyone know?
Quote from The Guardian (I know, sorry, don't like quoting that!): The ban on corporal punishment came into force in 1986 in British state schools (private schools took a while longer: until 1998 in England and Wales, 2000 in Scotland and 2003 in Northern Ireland). Source I can clearly recall Ken G...

Re: Did anyone know?
Also, I remember that Mike Gladding used to HATE it when his students went to Dobbie's house, which was just opposite Peele B when he was housemaster. Maybe he just didn't like the guy. As a biologist Gladding was contemptuous of all things religious but there may have been other reasons..... Two o...

Re: Did anyone know?
I started in 89 & witnessed a boy on my year being slippered. In fact, the teacher in question asked for a sample of slippers from the rest of us and then selected one with a hard sole. Not saying this was a regular occurrence but corporal punishment did not end with Baker. Post merger and, lik...

Re: Expelled
Just before the barn fire (which I didn't know about) there was a big drugs story in the papers about CH. Maybe '88 or '89. I think maybe 6-7 were expelled instantly for smoking pot..... despite alcohol being widely tolerated and far more deadly for 14-15yr olds. No idea how it got in the papers be...

Re: Letter to the Head Master
I think the school could also show it has investigated and understood the situations that abuse took place in and the improved governance for those occasions, eg: Karims massaging girls alone in his study. Could forseeably happen again if not for clear guidelines. I'm pretty sure that's in place but...

What letters were promised to the victims, Richard? On governance, the charity commission link posted previously has lots of info. Download the PDF report with colourful pie charts and click on the 31aug2017 document linked within. http://beta.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-details/?regid=1120090&...

Re: Letter to the Head Master
When a headmaster is writing lies to parents or writing references for people instead of calling the police, that is about personal responsibility and accountability. The day to day running of the school is the heads role too. The clerk is involved but i imagine the Almoners only do high level audit...

Re: Letter to the Head Master
I aacept there was a cover up regarding Webb's departure and my apologies to the victims for the insensitivity of some of my comments. My recollection at the time was that it was put down to a nervous breakdown and was a one off. Clearly Webb manipulated colleagues and a full investigation into the...

Re: Letter to the Head Master
..... My heart goes out to all of the victims and I am very sad that they were abused and that they were denied the opportunity to "carry with them, wherever they go, the good name of Christ's Hospital". I think we're all denied the good name of CH now, not just because of those convicted...

Re: Which prison?
HMP Parkhurst is currently holding mostly sex offenders - the prisons on the Island all merged a few years ago. Not sure what ‘stage’ in your sentence you need to have reached to be moved there. Did find it quite amusing to see lots of HMP Parkhurst mugs in the local tourist shops, presumably made ...

Re: Letter to the Head Master
Its off topic but state sector costs £5-6k per pupil, CH cost £30k a year. Boarding means a huge amount more infrastructure - houses, kitchens, security - but I reckon the teachers must cost more too, if only from the far smaller class sizes we benefited from and the extra lessons / subjects. All th...
