Re: Confirmation
In the days when I was a practising Christian, and felt the need or simple urge to go to a service, I simply entered the first House of God I came across, in whatever city or country I found myselft, without looking at the label over the door. I was never challenged as to my own "appartenance&q...

Re: Confirmation
we did have another surprise when they went to register Xander's birth - one of the questions on the form was 'what is his first language?' - long before he was able to speak any language! Prehaps they should delay registering him until he is able to speak! ...and they wouldn't let me write "s...

Re: Confirmation
All of the above underlines my conviction that Churches have nothing to do with Christianity - which is why I now shun all organised religion, whatever the label. Convert to/from RC or CofE? One converts from one religion to another, inside a religion one may adhere to one or another Church, but the...

Re: What Sounds & Smells Instantly Transport You Back to CH?
I recall chocolate bunnies from my first year in 5s, and certainly the foul taste of the tape for "sticking and licking" - I was in charge of Chapel music for a couple of years, and we had to use the disgusting stuff for mending the anthems - sellotape was already being used in classrooms ...

Re: Housemistresses
I must say that, reading back through all this, Fanny does appear to have been one of the better Housemistresses - I never felt that she was unjust, although strict, and I was very pleased to see her again when I returned for the last O.G.Day in 1984. It was DR who did me so much emotional damage...

Re: weighing and measuring
I remember at some time during the 3rd form having to go to Backs - and then later in the LIV being awarded a Posture badge... Given that I had been taking ballet lessons for 6 years prior to CH - and continued to go to occasional classes during the holidays, I was disgusted! You can't work on point...

Re: Fashions in Music at CH
Class was called Aural Training, taken by Miss Cordery and Miss Taverner... intented to edumificate us musically. I remember one splendid lesson when I talked Miss Cordery into playing some Bela Bartok - no one else enjoyed it, but I had a ball ! She then actually played some herself on the piano - ...

Re: Favourite Housey hymns
Taize is part of the Charismatic Movement - a colleague when I worked in France used to go there regularly with her family, and always came back "glowing" - albeit a trifle too ecstatically for my taste. Although invited, I never got round to going with them - not quite earthy enough for m...

Re: Will never buy bread again.....
I make my jam in a big stainless steel casserole - currently waiting for the plums on Mother's tree to ripen - looks like a bumper crop this year.
Used to make my own bread, never tried a bread-maker, but am tempted to buy one - any tips on the best one, price/quality ratio?

I remember the Vit C trial ! they tasted orangey. More serious was the strep throat epidemic episode ( the whole school came down with it, the Infirmary was full to bursting and the top floors of the San were opened up) - we were given a new antibiotic megapill, just one dose a day - we weren't told...
