Michaelmas term soon will start

Squits will their families depart

With trembling hands

They will do up their bands

Hiding their tears in their heart

In my early years we used to have a subuteo league that we played on saturday nights. Every few weeks we would have films in Big School as a bit of variety. During the summer terms, when the evenings were light, I remember plenty of informal football or cricket. In Mid A, my senior house, Ron "...

I've just realised

that on 20th September 2005 it will be exactly 40 years since I started at CH. With apologies to anybody I've inadvertently missed the full compliment of Maine A squits was as follows: Adams, Brooks, Butler, Calton J, Calton R, Chapman, Clack, Cromey-Hawke, Haynes, Heartfield, Kerridge, Martin, Mill...

In common with others I returned to CH the year after leaving to visit friends still there. The next visit was five or six years on as a few of us decided to meet at CH being halfway(ish) between London and the Sussex Coast. A year or two after that I showed the place to 'er indoors. I then had noth...

Sport itself is not the problem. The problem, as in other walks of life, is that an unpleasant minority can ruin the activity for others by their negative condescending attitude. As a technophobe, who regards successfully posting a message here to be a major achievement, I have found those that are ...

Another idea, not sure how easy or feasible to do though. A "what happened to" feature on Senior Grecians. Given the prestige Senior Grecians have within the school most readers of the same era would at least know of them. Depending on space and participation constraints Senior Grecians fr...

Euterpe 13, I'm very sorry to read of the death of your brother, Peter. I didn't know him that well as we were in different houses but we were in the sicker together at one time. He had suffered a fractured jaw if I remember rightly. I believe Peter was in Thornton B. If you look in the back of The ...

I would agree Julian that it is unfair to criticise John Hopgood as any edition of The Blue is only as good as the contributions sent in, as you imply. However I, like Hannoir, also voted for the status quo regarding The Blue on the questionnaire yet it appears the decision to change the format is a...

No go with the nephew I'm afraid. He is snowed under and with holidays etc is unlikely to be clear for sometime.

Sorry in retrospect I should have asked him before posting.

My nephew works for a company that designs websites. I can have a word if you like and see if he can help or if he "knows a man that can".

As St Bob Geldof would say................ give us your effing money! By the way you are not allowed to come to Beating of the Retreat, we'll shut the CH Club and stop the format of The Blue that has been going for 100 plus years. Ignore me I'm in Victor Meldrew grumpy old man mode  Mind you I...

TA, Gerald Davies was a great bloke and taught me English also. Without elaborating too much one of my CH "lows" concerned rugby and TGRD took the time to assure me that I could play the game. That was a real boost coming from someone of his status. JR, Our sex lecture was carried out by P...

I'd go along with JR and agree that cheese and potato pie and marmite fritters were two of the more acceptable items we were served in the sixties. I confess to concocting my own cheese and potato pie thing for my daughters which was surprisingly well received. They still request it from time to time.
