Re: James Andrew Husband, Pickering Town Council
It occurs to me that the reason Husband wasn't suspended on full pay may simply have been that town councils are shoestring operations these days and Pickering Town Council simply couldn't afford to pay wages to a replacement town clerk whilst continuing to pay Husband's presumably meagre stipend. I...

Re: James Andrew Husband, Pickering Town Council
I'm guessing it's perfectly possible that Pickering Town Council either genuinely didn't realise that their Andrew Husband was also James Andrew Husband of York, the Accused, or else that some of the town councillors (and Rotarians) did know of the charges but had been convinced by Husband himself t...

Where's Gavin Hunt when you need him?
In his absence, I nominate JR as goalkeeper. I'm sure he has what it takes (flat cap, knee-length shorts, bushy moustache, pipe etc.)

.... and of course, they still have the right of appeal. ....and I'm sure Husband most definitely will. After all, he's the only one with a cat in hell's chance. I've a sneaking feeling Burr may well be back in court in due course, in connection with incidents which may or may not have occurred on ...

Re: Ajaz Karim found guilty
Actually, tourist Florida's about as cheesy as Great Yarmouth, so I almost said 'This on a boat when I was on holiday' to conceal my shame at having been to Florida. But see, I'm essentially shameless. And essentially overweight too.

I'm tempted to use my powers of moderation. Well, there's gratitude for you. Anyone else would just count themselves lucky to have been immortalised in verse. In fact, why not have a calligrapher copy it out by hand and then have it framed? (PS: I wore the hat just once, in a moment of madness, rat...

Ah well, if this thread is going to be diverted into County Limerick, I might as well pull my weight, I suppose. Ahem.... In Dorking, a copper named Rutley - oft confused with the owner of Muttley - Proved so dastardly that He once ate my cat Then swallowed my canteen of cutl'ry. Next up, he ingeste...

Re: Ajaz Karim found guilty
I remember going along to a House Baths session when I was 14 and being struck down by a nasty bout of cramp in one of my legs while I was swimming, so I hauled myself out onto the side of the pool. The master who was supervising the session saw that I had cramp, so he hunkered down at the poolside ...

Re: Ajaz Karim found guilty
It is never easy to assess a case from newspaper reports as reporters tend to be selective and go for the more salacious parts of the case, but it did seem to be a very strong case against Karim. I'm interested to read Richard's comment, as I myself found the entire case quite otherwise. Unless the...

Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr
Last Friday's piece in the Brighton Argus concludes with the words 'The trial continues', so presumably there's been a hold-up of some kind, as the Saturday edition didn't mention the trial at all. http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/national/16157978.Coach_accused_of_giving_naked_massages_cl...

Yes, all three words were definitely 'Junior'. Kif and skiffage were the only food-related words which were in use by Seniors as well as Juniors, as far as I remember.

Re: HOUSEY SLANG
As I understand it: In the '60s and '70s, Maine, Barnes and Leigh Hunt all used the terms flab and muck , but whereas Maine and Leigh Hunt called bread crug , in Barnes it was more generally referred to as slice , I believe (or was that just in Barnes B?). Where that frankly pathetic excuse for a wo...

Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr
Hear hear. But as for removing Waterhouse's Hylas and the Nymphs from display at Manchester Art Gallery, that's just plain silly. And they're not even selling postcards of it any more either. A bit of an overreaction, I'd say. But then what do I know? I'm just a fat old git who grew up in the 1970s.
