Re: Gaia Week at Christ's Hospital
I apologise for resurrecting a dormant topic but I seldom visit this forum and when I searched its entirety for "parapsychology" this was the only reference to it that was found and it appears to be disappointingly disparaging. By contrast I found it encouraging. Parapsychology is just wo...

Re: Telegraph article: Pupils at prestigious public school will receive lessons in 'white privilege'
So Colston is not strictly an OB as he was a Non-Foundationer? Seems an awfully convenient way of disavowing him. Sadly it also disavows Pugin, who I rather like. So if it’s a subjective matter, I’d say schools should acknowledge the notorious as well as the meritorious. After all, CH punches low on...

Re: Burr released
But this is standard practice? A release at the midway point based on good behaviour and other such measurables?
One assumes that despite a formal parole hearing there are appropriate controls to govern his movement and conduct.

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?
I had a job abroad as soon as I left CH - so soon that I had to walk out a few days early to catch the boat. I was summoned to the HM's house where, with bad grace Seaman mumbled the Charge, pushed a bible in my hands and pushed me out. Even going to see a few masters I got the impression that they...

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?
I found Chapel distracting. We were lucky enough to be in the gallery and I used to read Tolkien during services. But I still had to stand up occasionally and mime hymns.
From the gallery you’re spared most of the awfulness of the murals.

Re: March 1990
Taken from Poulton's remarks on Rae during the incident. "From abroad, I wanted to fly back." "If you come back" he (Rae) said on the phone, "you will seem to indicate no trust in me and the team, and I will resign." It gives an indication of how they all stuck togethe...

Is this Charlie Watts? I slightly post-date the Stones but what’s emerging seems like the story of a genuinely nice, self-effacing guy. Sad day…

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?
I guess if the chaplaincy is wise enough to pick time-honoured belters that people can enjoy singing then they will get enough of a response. ISTR ‘Oh Jesus I have Promised’ was a particular fave but there were others. If however some bl**dy awful dirge from Taize made it onto the charge sheet then...

Re: March 1990
Reading the farewell notes for R Rae, in the Summer 1990 Blue, RCP (trying to work out who he may have been), writes that Rae was Acting Head in March 1990 at a very dark hour in the School's history. Can anyone elucidate? RCP was Poulton. The dark hour would have been this: https://www.chforum.inf...

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?
Yes, how come these key life skills are being so readily squandered? Now now, our Avon. I wasn't suggesting that the tunes of hymns, psalms and responses were of earth-shattering importance. I was merely wondering how much of a shambles the rare compulsory chapel services are from a musical point o...

Re: A tribute to Ian Atkinson
That’s a nice set of memories. I liked Atkinson - a thoroughly decent chap.
Sadly, for me he’s singular because he was the only one of the chaplaincy for some time who didn’t have jail-attracting tendencies.

Re: Brexit
I’d always hoped that we’d flush Ulster as a medieval aberration on the UK, not end up envying it as it passed to Eire and the EU. A.C.M Sir Mike Wigston might be unhappy if you make it harder for him to get spares for his Tucanos. Well, he’s a crab so he can stick to giving manly embraces to his R...
