Re: masterpaln

Good point, BUT are the houses not yet done, which are going to be done more cheaply also listed? That is also a good point. Yes the "unimproved" houses are also listed as far as I know. That MIGHT explain why they are having to be improved to an inferior specification because of the budg...

Fair enough! However with a wife and 3 daughters regularly giving me grief I have to be careful!

My knowledge of architecture, civil engineering, surveying etc can be summarised on the back of a postage stamp. However it might be that, because the buildings are listed, improvements that would normally be expected to cost £x cost £y because the normal trade shortcuts can't be taken. Just a tho...

Attn: Euterpe 13

Sorry to intrude on the Hertford thread, but just wanted to advise Euterpe 13 that Nick Boyd has posted his photos of the Prep play and rugby team, with her late brother Peter featuring, on the CH Photos thread. They are quite a long way down though so she might have missed them. She made an appeal ...

Re: Housey! The 'magazine'

I don't know if this is the right forum to talk about Housey! but please move if it's in the wrong place... I got a copy of it the other day - is there really any need for this publication now? With the advent of the 'Old Blue' magazine - what does Housey! do that the 'Old Blue' won't... I'd be qui...

From Christ's Hospital by G.A.T. Allan Revised by J.E. Morpurgo: ...."there were at one time many Bluecoat schools, most of them established in the seventeenth century as provincial imitations of the City of London's Foundation.......For us the school is C.H. tout court or, in a usage that has ...

I seem to be obsessed by punishments today. Where's Miss Whiplash when you need her? In my first year in Maine A we used to be given loops, miles and double miles as running punishments and a monitor (Lloyd or Fordham generally) would accompany us on a bicycle. How do they punish naughty kids...

Well there's a funny thing!

Spoonbill and Englishangel both come from Amersham!

Back to the topic: people who've seen photos of me as a youngster say that I've hardly changed but they are probably being polite!

PUNISHMENT DRILLS

Marty's lavatorial reminiscences on the thread down below (it gets worse) triggered a surreal thought process in my mind that led to punishment drills at CH. Who else remembers the Nell Todd Art School drill? You had to go off, armed with a wheelbarrow and spade, scour the fields surrounding the Sch...

Old Blues are naughty boys!

Andrew Higgins has been suspended after getting sent off playing for Bath against Gloucester at the weekend. He tripped Tindall apparently. Mind you Tindall's a big so and so! I'm not sure I'd fancy tackling him particularly! Hopefully here's a link with an action photo of young Higgins: http://www....

From Viz Magazine

Old but quite amusing: DON'T waste money on expensive ipods. Simply think of your favourite tune and hum it. If you want to "switch tracks", simply think of another song you like and hum that instead. RAPPERS: Avoid having to say 'know what I'm sayin' all the time by actually speaking clea...

Perhaps a new thread for this tangent! But I think people would be hard pressed to make a sustained complaint. But back to topic.... Second episode of Rock School tonight... :D Mention of the word tangent brings back painful memories of biology with Bob Sillett in the sixties  Regarding the &q...
