Re: Politics
The UK Passport office seems to be interested in such people if they renew UK passports I have a second passport due to ancestry; whenever I renew my British passport I have to provide a photocopy of every page of my other passport. It’s for anyone with dual/multiple nationality, not just Irish. Bu...

Re: Politics
Does BJ think an election would give him a clear majority? I think that is his hope (but I don't whether he actually believes it could happen). I don't support him or the Conservatives, but I understand his reasoning, as you can't get much done when you have a minority in the Commons so get constan...

Re: Did anyone know?
I got tipsy at a teacher's house for a leaving party about a week before the end of my Grecians. The teacher was also retiring. The whole class was invited, as were numerous staff (both teachers and non-teaching staff, spouses, etc.). Nothing untoward whatsoever; I remain in occasional contact with ...

Re: Did anyone know?
Institutional awareness? What on earth does that actually mean...? I guess he means the SMT - the most powerful staff body at the school, consisting of HM Poulton and Deputy HMs Sillett and Cairncross - about as institutional as you get in a school I suppose - who were fully aware of at least one c...

Re: Bursaries Shmursaries
If anyone's interested, there is a good-natured debate going on on the Old Blues Facebook site about this Labour proposal. Some interesting and salient points made from all sides. Would copy the link but FB blocked here at work!

Re: Bursaries Shmursaries
I had a letter the other day from an organisation I left in October1961; somehow they had followed me through five UK addresses and four foreign addresses! They were only dealing with 65 to 70 for each year or maybe double that number. It is, of course, possible but is CH up to that ability? GDPR s...

Re: Sentence of Peter Webb referred to Court of Appeal
Lengths of time without offending (if indeed there wasn’t any offending) happen for reasons such as your access to victims or habitual means of offending becoming blocked or restricted, being in a new relationship or some other life/family event that gives you a new perspective (or leaves you with n...

Thanks John, absolutely amazing photos. On behalf of space geeks who were not born then and will probably never experience anything remotely comparable, these personal testimonies and household films are truly precious.

Re: Response from the Head Master
There have been cases (including death penalty cases) in the US where DNA has cemented a guilty verdict, only for it to have later been found to be incorrectly identified/contaminated/planted. DNA is not gospel. FWIW, I was a geneticist in the University where DNA fingerprinting was invented, and t...

Re: Response from the Head Master
I don't have in mind an unconditional admission of liability by the school. But where individuals have reported events to the police, made statements and helped secure convictions, I believe that the school should be paying for counselling and therapy without question. Those people without doubt ar...

Re: Response from the Head Master
Presumably Charles the school has been told by the insurers to admit nothing and agree nothing in case it is construed as an admission of liability. My response will be unpopular and maybe insensitive, and I apologise unreservedly but feel the point needs to be made. The victims of course deserve a...

Re: What is the impact of a CH education?
As for timing, I guess the press has died down and was massively less for Martin's trial, plus they may have hoped some people were unaware. I wonder how many OBs aren't even aware of any of these cases. While obviously a very serious and important set of events, it's not front-page news on papers, ...
