This is really a question for Adrian Bawtree, as he is looking after that side of things.

However, if I were to hazard a guess I would say that the various arrangements for brass accompaniment are already in existence, as they may well have been used at C.H. Coming up with new arrangements to include woodwind etc. might not be feasible in the allotted time.

I suppose that woodwind instruments could be used to double up on the brass parts, but you probably wouldn't hear them.
Now that makes sense, thanks Richard

not really as I can get arrangements for carols etc for full concert band, wind and brass. the band I play in has them.

it's not that difficult to find music for woodwind and brass.

ah well, enjoy the carols.

Hi Eloise
As I said, I will talk to Adrian after this week.......
It might be very helpful that you can get suitable arrangements.

my message wasn't meant quite as abruptly as it probably sounded, I was really replying to Richard.

unless there were going to be several woodwind players it wuld make sense to keep the music just brass :(

I'm pretty sure Mr Plum will have his piccolo with him !

Slight confusion here - I wasn't for one moment suggesting that it's impossible to find the arrangements, I was just thinking that Adrian / C.H. probably already have arrangements for brass.

I don't know how much things have changed in the (many) intervening years, but when I was playing at C.H. any accompaniment to chapel (or any other) services was invariably provided by brass and brass only.

I was only imagining that if a couple of woodwind players were playing with a brass group you probably wouldn't hear them as brass players, on the whole, like to be heard!

Yes - but he usually has his piccolo with him just in case he needs it.

It's very portable, and never gets in the way!

Does that answer your question, Eloisec ?

He might show it to you during a break in rehearsal, if you ask him nicely. I understand it's quite a lively little instrument.

Little being the operative word.....

:backtotopic:

I guess too that there's only a certain amount that can be accomplished in the available time - Adrian's generously offered to direct again this year, which is fantastic and I'm sure we're all really grateful he's happy to do it again. It takes huge amounts of work to logistically make these things happen, so I guess not everything that we'd like to do can happen each year.

My suggestion would be to suggest the idea to Adrian for next year, canvass for volunteers very well in advance to prove it's viable (I guess he's fairly confident he'll get brass volunteers after last year), and then we've got a chance to make it happen next year?

I'll still talk to Adrian after this week.. but maybe not raise the question of the Plum Piccolo. Irrelevant anyway if the Plum is to be using vocal chords instead.

I'm told he is quite a virtuoso on both at the same time !
