virtual disappearance of the School blazer, according to previous threads, are School and House colours still awarded for sport?

In my day you would get a School or House badge with, for example, XV and X1 on it although colours were also awarded for sports other than rugby and cricket.

Yes they are... as I know they are still awarded for cricket.

I was awarded them for Cricket scoring

yes, they are still awarded (the school badge and the roman numeral badge), though as you say, there is little to do with them, since the only use of blazers would be if one had broken an arm, or similar (i.e. couldn't wear a housey coat). House badges have completely disappeared though (with the exception of Lamb who managed to incorporate it into their new house shirt).

I got colours for shooting, although I just got the badge and not crossed rifles as well which I believe I was supposed to have. However, much to the anoyance of the RSM I wore my blazer at almost every oppo!!

i remember pete kearsey going irate about the fact that me and charles craigie couldn't have shooting colours. some school admin bollox about not ordering them again that year (and presumably the year after as well if laura didn't get the right one).
me and charles were a tad miffed, though largely let it just roll off our backs, but pete seemed to have taken real personal offence to it.

the man should be knighted.

Yes it was a wee bit irritating that I never got the rifles especially as we won such a big trophy and had an extremely succesful season, more so than many other housey sides that year.

in recent years shooting has always been an "oppressed" sport. "Big Pete" isn't interested unless it's rugby, Conners isn't interested in anything else except brown-nosing Big Pete. when Mary Ireland was new she used to stick up for shooting. wonder how long that lasted...

So how's clay-shooting doing at the school??

It's one of my passions - and something I'd like to see happen on the next Old Blues day (the guys who were running the rifle shooting last OBs day said they'd certainly be up for it) and I'd be happy to help-out if needed on the day, and even provide some cartridges if needed....

Shooting was a total joke when I was at CH. We were required to do about 10 rounds for CCF classification and you got 10 rounds only. No 2 sighting shots, no grouping etc. Changing the sights was prohibited.
Result: I got a 2nd class with a v. good group almost off the target.

Outside CH, my average was 97.9 compared to the 50 or so CH allowed.

Worst thing is that that score goes on my army record. Bl**dy Page (OC)
