That used to be a great source of gossip, which master was having sex with which matron

I think most of them are married or have children these days...

How times do change. When I was there, they were nearly always terrifying old spinsters. Well Barnes excepted, they seemed to have some almost pretty ones

Go and have a look at the Barnes A photo from 1973!

Our matron was Elly van Alphen, who was a bit scary at the time.

The assistant matron was Caroline Wiegerinck, who was Dutch, about 6'2" tall, and wore skirts whose length never seemed to exceed 6"........!

I sabotaged Mr Fry's gavel so that when he called for grace, it flew off and smacked a passing kitchen worker on the head. Ooops. Sorry Mr Fry but you really didn't have much of a sense of humour
