Our nicknames at Hertford completely lacked inspiration or originality. Most often they were the person's first name, if we knew it - I suppose we thought it was a bit daring to be referring to staff by their first names. I suppose some of the housemistresses were a bit more obscure. So here's a Hertford list for starters:

BJ
Chemi T
Merce
Nelly
The Purple Headed Mountain
Queenie
Nutto
Lil
Fanny
The Goat
Fatty M (sorry, I know this will displease some people, but it was what we called her!)
Monty

Impressive Michael and some great stories I imagine behind the names...

Bogey Fryer was just about going out in 1978 when I arrived....

Wind aka yo is an intriguing one...and why was Ron called ZOB??

I was thinking about Bob Sillet - if SliceIt wasn't his nickname, it certainlY should have been!

Smoothy was Peter Brotherton, if I've got the name right. I've seen smooth operators before, but this guy was amazing - he was smooth to EVERYBODY!

Blimey.... it looks as if 'the boys' were both a lot more daring and a lot more 'creative' than the girls in ascribing nicknames to House and Teaching Staff! Hertford's memories seem very pale (and skimpy in terms of percentage of staff on the campus) alongside those from Horsham! Although of course many members of this Forum refer to the Housemistress in 6's as 'The Hag'. Even that, compared to Horsham, feels rather mild!
