Rock School DVD

Post by Richard Ruck »

I've just been given a copy of the forthcoming 2-DVD set.

It contains an intro by Gene Simmons, Episodes 1 - 7, 'Gene meets the Deputy Head', 'First Lesson', 'Gene's Hotel Tour', 'Rock School Revelations' and 'Video Diaries'.

It's billed as having 90 minutes of unseen extras.

I'll try to watch the extras at some point today and let you all know if it's any good.

(I wonder if C.H. will get a royalty, or whether they agreed a fixed sum for the deal...).

By the way, Amazon are pre-selling it for £14.99, and it'll be available from November 14th, it seems.

hhhmmm wonder if i should ask for it for xmas as i havent seen it.

EDIT: ok this annoys me:
Gene Simmons (of Kiss fame) takes on a group of die-hard classical music fans in the form of the pupils of super-posh Christ's Hospital school
Why the hell are they making the school out to be something it isnt??

Hey give Amazon a break, they’re an online retailer – the CEO is probably 14.

Well, it's quite easy to submit your own comments, correcting any inaccuracies in their description.

Why not give it a go?

OK, watched the extras last night (and episode 7, but I won't spoil it for you).

Quite entertaining, really, especially the video diaries. Gene Simmons does one of these, too, so we get to hear how everyone's feeling about things at each stage of the project. Quite often the kids will think everything's going well, while G.S. reckons the day in question has been 'crap' (or vice-versa).

Also instructive is Gene talking with Mary Ireland and a couple of other members of staff. M.I. explains the whole ethos of C.H. to G.S. and he, in turn, reveals more about his early life and what makes him tick.

'Gene's hotel tour' is a brief opportunity to slag off English weather and plumbing - presumably aimed at an American audience in order to reinforce a few stereotypes. A bit pointless, really.

'First Lesson' is more extensive footage of the stuff already seen in the first couple of episodes.

In my opinion, certainly worth the fifteen quid Amazon are asking.

I wonder if the School Shop will be selling any?

Oh, hang on a minute..... :(
