It's sad that we lost Vikki Askew in March 2016. As the school faces adverse publicity it is worth remembering that it had staff of impeccable morality who worked themselves into the ground and eventually into the grave for their pupils. Anyone who went to Romania with Muir John Potter and Vikki will have had a life changing experience. Anyone who was taught History by her will have had a special experience. I'm sure she deserved an MBE had she been male or died later. RIP Vikki.

Bizarrely, when registering the death, I met Webmaster Julian Taylor's mum who was there as a counsellor.

She was indeed special - she taught me history in a number of occasions and I was very sorry to hear of her passing.

Was this Vikki Hatton before? I think she taugt me briefly Medieval History (at the same time as Husband
) and had filled in for Gripper Davies who went to Cranleigh?

Didn't know you'd met, it's a small world!
Mum volunteers for Coroner Court Support at Southwark Coroners' Court, and occasionally other Coroner Courts, as well as volunteering at St. Christopher's Hospice doing talks and tours for international visitors, where she worked for many years as head of Physio. Retirement hasn't stopped her working, that's for sure - busier now I think than when she was working!
Amazingly proud of her altruistic commitment to others - she's amazing!

Yes, it would have been. Her son, Ed Hatton who was on my year at CH is now head of classics.

A little aside (no names as I don't have their permission) but a female contemporary of mine whose daughter has just finished at CH, somewhat humbled Ed at a parents meeting a couple of years ago, by stating the last time they met was she used to babysit him!

Yes it was. Jonathan Davies went on to be Head of History at King Edward's Birmingham. His speciality was devising history re-enactment games which he has continued into retirement.

Sorry Tim, but what exactly is the point of re-enactmet games ?
History is history. It is gone. I really don't see the point of trying to prove what might have been a better solution in the past if something different had been done.
As someone who has studied WWII in great detail, I can say that if the right military leaders had been listened too at the end of that war, we certainly would NOT be in the position we are in today.
HOWEVER, I digress yet once again.
Anybody want to comment ?

JR - I was just trying to say that Jonathan "Gripper" Davies - who was a colleague of mine for a very short time at CH - took a huge amount of time to make history FUN for his pupils !

Fun is good. Abuse is a crime. Not that I am suggesting for one minute that any named person is guilty of such.

One well known private school is now still trying to hush up the 'accepted' tradition of seniors beating juniors with cricket bats.
I feel a Channel 4 documentary coming on.
