Several of the places have lacked a particular fundamental component but I have been easily able to work around it up until now: when there was no oven, I learned to cook.

Yolking apart, Thomas, this is the statement that puzzles me most!

It's just that I used to use the oven absolutely all the time, even for doing "proper" things, not just the junk, and practically never used the hob. Pizzas, those meat things covered with breadcrumbs, fish fingers, sausage rolls, lasagne, goulash, pasties, fish, baking cakes, cauliflower cheese, gratin, roast chicken...the list is endless. You can make so much just by turning a switch and putting something in the oven, but I've been told it's not exactly "cooking" as it doesn't require a any skill (unless you're doing things like baking a cake or making proper dishes (e.g. above), which I do sometimes).

Hmm I've been sitting here for 10 minutes after putting that paragraph up, trying to think of an egg-related pun, but I shall have to come back next time!
