The school probably doesn't want your presence on the touchline in case you all start behaving like a bunch of footie hooligans and embarrassing the kids. Maybe Touchline Mums as well.
Don't think I've ever seen that publication Freaky. Strange given my love of football.

I loved Viz though.

Definitely go, and take her food too - my son loves the deliveries that we bring...

I hardly recall parents visiting to attend inter-house matches in the 1950s although school first team rugby and cricket matches against other schools were better attended, although perhaps only by parents who happened to be passing through. One of the more positive things that I believe I took from CH was a dislike of what my northern father would have called ballyhoo. I remember in a house rugby match when a newly arrived lad who'd perhaps been more acquainted with soccer rushed up to hug and congratulate someone who'd just scored a try and was immediately ticked off and told to calm down. It's a team game, I've no doubt they said, and everyone contributed to the try. I used to laugh at older people who warned about the dangers of professionalism, but these days I do wonder whether maybe they had a point. I watch teams that have won a trophy in football or indeed rugby cavorting about the pitch, behaving like children and milking the applause until the spectators themselves are leaving, and think: "Come on guys, stop being silly, it's only a game. Go Home." It's probably my age. Alan Bennett says that he finds pretty much everything OTT these days.

As an aside i manage a girls U18 rugby team and we had a delayed start to an Area finals game last season as the ref had to recover (and write up a report on) be verbally accosted and accused of being a "disgrace to reffing" by the parents of a U15 girls team playing their final before us so it is not just professional sport (the ref in question has reffed me in the past and I think she is a very fair and consistent ref - not least as having played in the front row she knows what is going on).
