Just checking....shoes

Last year DS got a great pair of Dr Martens which were well worth the money and I would still recommend! However with fast growing feet and one foot bigger then the other, DM's (no half sizes) are not going to do their magic this year....so I just wanted to double check with you all, that shoes should be 'DM style' and not actual DM's?

DM style is fine. They must be black, polishable and robust!

Son's DM's were a little large for him last year so we used memory foam inserts, could you use one of those in the smaller foot's shoe? They seem to reduce the size by about a half. - an idea if you can't find any other shoes you like.

Which reminds me, the DM's are currently in the loft, I really should get him to try them on again, in case he needs new ones! I think psycologically I'm not ready for him to go back, we've had a great summer holiday :(

Thank you. Good idea pinkhebe, will look into that. No, I don't want to think about going back either, will get stuff out week before! But have learned from experience not to leave school shoes to the last minute.....

If all else fails there is the thrift shop, but you cannot guarantee what izes they will have there. Best for when they need a new pair, rather than the first pair.

There is a code for 15% off at cloggs today TFC3

Although ever since I bought son's DM's from there last year I get daily codes with money off!

I keep an eye on ebay and buy a size ahead. I rarely pay more than £5 for DMs although they have become more rare lately. Just a thought.....

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't thought of ebay. But now we'll all be bidding,so on those rare occasions when DMs come up for sale the prices will probably go up!

Me too! Usually have a spare pair on top of the wardrobe for when he needs them. Couldn't get DMs last time though so got some ex-police stock. You can also try searching for 'royal mail shoes', 'cadet shoes' or 'parade shoes' - these sometimes give you options..........

not sure I should be giving all my secrets away though!

I've just found out that my husband can get shoes from work, black lace up polishable, but they have steel toecaps. Is this allowed at school? I have vague memories of them being banned at my secondary school in the 80's.

I doubt they would go down well. Not certain but doubt that Matron would approve!!
