Please be very cautious about what is posted (i.e. please only post an answer to my question) but does anyone have the precise dates/venue of Gary Dobbie's upcoming trial and is anyone from the forum attending. Thanks.

Charles, I have moved your post to this Forum.

There is some more information on another thread in this Forum. I believe we may know more quite soon. I will make a discreet enquiry.

J.

It would be really good if someone could go... I would take the day off to attend but I'm 5000 miles away!

I imagine Dobbie will appear via a video-link from which ever establishment he is currently relaxing in.

However, whatever the outcome on Tuesday, I should be able to find out pretty quickly.

I have just been updated by those in the know. The trial is likely to last 4-5 days and Dobbie will be taken to court every day and in all probability will have been moved to HMP Lewes to keep the cost down.

I am thinking of going. If anyone else is, let me know.

I’ve never sat in a public gallery before. Is there anything I need to know?

As I recall, Court 4 at Hove Crown Court is quite small with only a few seats for the public. No gallery as such, so arrive early.

You will obviously be searched, (for metal objects), on entering the building. The clerk of the court MAY ask for your interest in the case. Apart from that, it's pretty straight forward really.

I used to drop in at the Old Bailey when I had nothing better to do. What you need to know: 1) it helps to have a strong stomach; 2) barristers relish the opportunity to use the foulest language possible ('only quoting'). On one occasion, when a Jamaican was standing trial for murdering his brother (he was acquitted on grounds of self-defence) I learnt quite a lot of Jamaican English. As from this exchange:

Defendant: He said he would limb me down.
Lawyer: What did you you understand him to mean by that?
Defendant; He meant he would cut off my arms and legs.
Lawyer: I see. You use this expression, do you, where, er, you come from?
