A problem in the Army, was that the Light Infantry (Now known as the Rifles --- see "Sharpe" ) always march at a pace MUCH quicker than the Infantry. According to Bandy, rifles at 140, the rest at 120
The Guards (At least in my day) had a Slower pace ----
Confusion could reign -- but by clever sorting of the"Order of March" --- "Overtaking" was avoided !
