Nicko, Dicko and Kerensky

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

Nicko, Dicko and Kerensky

Post by rockfreak »

I've lost John Wexler's thread where there is mention of Nicholas Cox and Timothy Dickinson (Col B in my and JR's day) proceeding down a street somewhere and Dickinson suddenly recognising Alexander Kerensky, a figure in the Russian revolution. Actually it's not so unlikely as it seems. In the mid-sixties I used to buy a trendy magazine titled Man About Town (or later just Town) which was published by Michael Heseltine's Haymarket Publishing and which featured clothing styles plus short stories by up and coming writers and occasionally some politics and social coverage. On one occasion they ran a short interview with the proverbial Kerensky - who had perhaps beached up in London for a while in order to meet the Beatles, as many did back then. He recounted how he had attempted in 1917 to hold the line between Mensheviks and Bolsheviks and had found it an impossible position. He fled to New York (which was certainly better than ending up in Siberia or even worse in the basement of the Lubyanka with a bullet in the head). So there he was, waltzing along a street in England, with Nicko and Dicko for company. The Serbian church in America apparently refused to bury him because of his association with communism so he is buried in the non-denominational Putney Vale cemetery. The Guardian Saturday magazine used to publish a feature titled A Brush With Greatness, about people who had encountered famous figures. This is one they seem to have missed.

I remember both Nick and Tim from Col B.

I seem to recall that they have both 'passed on'.

I'm always intrigued by people who are supposed to have "passed on" John. It's a bit like the mediums who tell you about people who have "passed over". "There's someone here who's eager to get in touch with you....."

What would happen if we could get in touch with Dicko? What would he have thought of CH? Of NT Fryer? Of the whole set-up? As you posted me, I remember him walking about nodding and talking to himself. I believe that Maths was his subject yet he apparently made his name in the US because of his historical knowledge of politics. I wonder whether his learning and liberal European attitudes (par for the course for educated people back then) helped temper US gung ho imperialism. Is there any mention of him in the CH annals? There's certainly no shortage of mention of the charlatan Steve Hilton who I believe is currently working for Fox News.

I did appreciate the statement that someone (I forget who) had earned their wings.
What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!!!
