Which came first?

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

Which came first?

Post by sejintenej »

Old Blues have the choice of two different ties. Both have a dark blue background, one superimposed by a CH badge and the other with red and blue lines.
Having been removed from Christ's Hospital in termtime I was required amongst other things to take (note - not have or eat) dinner wearing a suit and tie and polished shoes. The only decent tie I owned was the CH tie with lines.
I was surprised at dinner that the gentleman sitting next to me, (a known ex-Eton pupil) was wearing an apparently identical tie. I already knew his WW11 background but it turned out that the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve tie is almost the same as that CH variation but follows the RNVR alternative name of the "Wavy Navy" in having the stripes just slightly wavy.

I was allowed back in CH after about a week of good living.
Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

Motif'd ties are very non-u.

The CH patterned one is horribly nondescript. Mostly blue with timorous little lines.

Such a pity that nobody went for it and had something bold in mind but I think all the bold is now taken and there are some clashes these days. It's possible to wear a King's Royal Hussars tie and be mistaken for a member of the MCC, which would be rather confronting.
