Predictive text curiosities

The predicitive text on my mobile (which I have found no way of disactivating in 2 and a half years of owning it) often comes up with bizarre and amusing variations of what I want to write. For some reason, it has an excellent geographical knowledge of Russia, India and China, amongst others. If i want to write "yes", after putting in the Y and the E, it comes up as "Yekaterinburg". The first 4 letters of "paycheck" come up as "Rawalpindi." "Chocolate" appears as "Ahmadabad" after 4 letters and "agony" as "Chongqing".

A friend of mine with a Spanish mother calls her mother "madre"...the other day she sent a text to her without reviewing it and it came up as "obese". Another funny one I heard was someone texting a friend wanting to say "have a nice meal", but it came out as "have a nice neck"!

My most common (to my offspring is "When will you be good?" for "When will you be home?"

But the best one was in reply to my husband's query "What's for dinner?" My reply "Smart beef"

I hate predictive text. I had it on my old phone and I spent most of my time correcting it. I'm guessing I could get it on my current phone if I wanted, but it wasn't switched on when I got it and I didn't bother to find out.

If you haven't got the 'Work-Shop Manual' for your mobile, type the model and number into your favourite search engine. Most instruction books are available from the phones web-sites, generally in Adobe format.

Jan and I keep both our phones books in 'My Documents'.

We found it quite easy to disenable predictive.

Tried holding down * or # ?

One of my favourites is asking people if they want to go for a pint which comes out as "Would you like to go for a shot?" or "Would you like to go for a riot?"

Another favourite is if you type in barmaid, it comes out as carnage!
