Gorbal's Mick.......

Post by J.R. »

..... to resign as Speaker this afternoon.

Does that mean he won't get his £100,000 'good-bye' ?

I hope he doesn't get it. I read an interview with one of his friends saying that Mick came from an even poorer ares than the Gorbals, and that to live there would have been a step up.

Looks like a peerage and a £1,000,000 pension pot.

NO CHANGE THERE, THEN !

The Peerage is, I believe, Traditional.
But I wonder what Betty Boothroyd and Lord Tonypandy, are thinking ?

Not a lot I should think
"If a man speaks, and there isn't a woman to hear him, is he still wrong?"

I assume , therefore , he has snuffed it !
I think he had a lovely sense of humour --- when one Member complained that he had not understood a word spoken by a Glaswegian Member, the Speaker gravely announced (In a VERY Welsh accent) "We have many regional accents in this House ---- --- I sometimes wish I had one myself !"

Collapse of Stout Party and Members !
