hence the association appreciation = Betts : the poor woman had me for A-level english, and once gave us an awful poem to " write an appreciation" - mine was about 3 lines long categorising said poem as pretentious rubbish => Betts " Barbara, you are supposed to write a literary appreciation of the piece " - " I did - that what I think of it " - mortified silence from dear Betts....
Such a gentle woman - must have been terrible to have to teach philistines...
