I think the Sin of Onan was actually contraception by withdrawal, if you can call withdrawal contraception. Hence the RCs opposition to contraception.

More exactly, the " spilling of his seed on the ground" , which in time was also assimilated with masturbation. It was a sin in the case of Onan because by withdrawing he disobeyed God , who had ordered him to get his brother's wife pregnant - and was duly killed for it !

That was what I meant.

So 'onanism', (if that IS a word), must refer only to the male of the species !

The obvious quetion, therefore, is what is the biblical term for what the females of the species do ?
