dragged the bf round three wedding reception venues today....and we think we have found the 1.
It was the moment we drove up the drive like WOW! fantastic old country house hotel
........now to convince the parents to cough up
So which Country House Hotel, Amy? I bet there's an Old Blue somewhere who knows it and who can offer some guidance ....

Most vicars are more than happy to have a service of blessing where the full wedding thing is not required for some reason. You can have all the music and prayers, readings etc. No problem.

Went to a wedding in Antigua between a Greek Catholic and an English Jewess (if I can use that word). Her parents would not attend a wedding service so it had to be a Registrar affair. We then found out that the Registrar is a Christian minister and very devout. He created (without prior notice) a "service of blessing" around the registry ceremony (on the beach) but he was prevailed upon not to mention Jesus. Talk about complicated! The bride's mother was not amused and disappeared immediately afterwards to her room.

My father used to do this as a school chaplain as the school chapel was not licensed for weddings. He would never pretend it was a wedding, as some couples wanted. Apparently it led to some fairly difficult negotiations, as I was fairly young at the time I don't know whether all the services went ahead or not.
I've been asked to go up to Yorkshire in April to join Susannah, best-friend-Bridezilla (whose own wedding plans have been terminated - oh dear!) and the Groom's Mother, for the final of the which-one-of-four Wedding Dress choice.
I have a vision of Susannah in a cloud of misty tulle and lace, but must not impose my vision upon her! Her taste is simple and elegant. She's size 8 and very tall.
I'm still wearing a bit of my wedding dress - it was a December wedding in 1981 and I had a matching soft creamy wool wrap to keep warm over a New Romantic blouse - very Lady Diana. That wrap, 26 years on, is still a lovely warm useful item!

no not South Lodge, we did look there but thought it was a bit stuffy!
its Alexander House Hotel and Utopial Spa!!! John Travolta recently stayed there-if its good enough for him
Parents have seen it, it was them who recomended it so hopefully they should be ok...may have to decrease numbers but thats not a problem if it means having the perfect venue.
Also hopefully going to get married in Itchingfield church!
