Excitement! The doorbell rang and.... surprise visit from Carolynn!

We have been reminiscing and laughing for 3 hours or so and I am slightly hoarse from performing the greatest hits from Ashbournella - however a question arose -

Where is the Hertford Museum?

I honestly don't know where it is, having never visited. Carolynn thought it might be in the Castle grounds?

If you go to Yell.com and put in Hertford Museum or Museum in Hertford it will bring it up and then you can click on a little map which shows you car parks and everything. It is on Bull Plain. However as I said I have expunged Hertford from my mind and I am none the wiser.

Fortunately I can read a map.

I demand a repeat performance when we meet in Hertford. I don't know how we got away with some of the words.

You'll recognise Hertford - and Bull Plain - when you get there! Though there are a lot of one-way streets (they seem very small now, but when I was at school they were just ordinary streets!) and if you take a wrong turn you can end up having to go round the block a second time (as I did....)

I second that. I went to Hertford on Saturday and the town centre was just the same. There was Gravesons in the centre - or what used to be Gravesons - and the pedestrianised (at least it is now) Maidenhead Street, the one with Woolworths in it, that goes through to opposite the castle grounds entrance. Bull Plain is at right angles to the town centre end of Maidenhead Street. I remember it used to have a greengrocers' on the corner, where our weekly fruit orders came from.

Oh, I remember Bull Plain, Gravesons and the greengrocer!

Carolynn very kindly brought me a copy of "Away from the Bombs and the Boys" which I know Maggie has mentioned before! It's riveting! From my initial dippings in, not much seems different; oh bother, I should be cooking! But amazing! I flipped to the arrival of DR. Ha!!!

Caroline,
Thankyou for the message via FU. I have registered here now, so am stretching my sklls to see if I can reply here!!
Looking forward to April 5th and hopefully middle sister Heather is coing too.
Will I know anybody I wonder?? -though I've an awful feeling that Hertford girls will be able to recognise others anyway... Reading various postings Katherine is the only one that overlaps with me except Jenny Bore and her letters (but I put her on to the forum anyway)
Wonder if this will actually work and reach anyone. Here goes!

Well I overlapped with you, Angela... but I am ashamed to say that although I remember your name (and your sister's),I don't recall either your faces or Houses. I was in 5's (Miss Bailes) and then 2's (Mrs. Winstone), 1957-66. I went all the way through the School from Miss King's First Form to the Upper Sixth....

I remember the name Heather Pratt, although I'm not sure I remember the face very clearly. Was she in 8's, about 1965 to 1972ish?

Hi Angela

Message received and understood :D

I'm at home, and my reunion dinner spreadsheet is on my laptop at Uni, so I'm not sure whether or not you and Heather have requested a seat for dinner. Apologies if you have and you are on the list.

I will be back at Uni tomorrow, but to save time, could you please confirm whether or not the two of you are able to stay for dinner?

Many thanks.

Welcome Angela, I only have a vague memory of your name, I'm sorry to say. Were you in 8s with Jenny? You probably don't remember me at all - by 63 I was probably only notable in Guides (Queen's Guide), and for my garden. I shared the one with a silver birch by the swings and we regularly won prizes for it.

Sadly I won't be in Hertford that weekend as I have to go to Blackpool that weekend. (Very torn now between different strings tugging at me for then!)

Is there anyone else from 8s or that I might know planning to go on the Sat or any other day? I live really close, and have been working up to visiting the museum/reunion weekend. Also expect to take family along at some point, but that may be a totally different day.

Hi Kerren

I was 66-73. I'm working up to be brave enough to meet 'anyone' on spec, but I may need a security blanket ...

Don't worry Hillary.. you will find that all OGs are very friendly! You will feel at home instantly.....
And there will be people there that you know, even if they were not in 8's.
Last weekend I held a Big Birthday Party - there were 12 OGs present, from different generations, and we all just 'gelled'.
I do hope that you will decide to come on 5 April. I look forward to meeting you!
