Miss Scott Haughton... and her "fagash" biscuits - yes... I remember Pot!

We had a number of housemistresses in sixes during my four years before the move to Horsham and I think Pot was the only constant during those years.

Having read loads of old threads on the forum in the last few days, I have rather lost track of which one was The Hag - but I suspect it would have been Miss Jenkins - the woman who blighted my life! I think she arrived in my UIV year. Prior to that I had had a year in 5's, when it was a junior house with Miss Bailes and a series of assistant housemistresses- the only one I really remember was a New Zealander called Miss Henshaw. Then a year in 6's with Mrs Windham who was OK - she used to write books about the lives of saints, for children. After she left CH she remarried.

Oliver had to be filmed sailing yesterday to demonstrate his practical skill for his GCSE Sports exam. In its wisdom, AQA prescribed that it had to be done in a "dingy". Unfortunately, the noun was omitted .........

That must have been unpleasant. Does the examiner award extra marks for spelling?

Right, Mr Franklin. If we are talking about the tea and cakes, we spell it "Fare". If about the live music and activities, how about "Fair"? Please write out three times...

Generally speaking, a fair is 'a gathering of stalls and amusements for public entertainment', whereas fare is 'a range of food' (Concise Oxford Dictionary, 1999). However, the archaic (15th to 17th century) spelling fayre is confusingly used for both words by those who think it lends 'an historick flavour'.

But I won't go down the road (publicly, here) which led me to re-evaluate my whole approach to Christianity and which brought me to where I am today.
Strangely enough, in later life, I found DRW more in tune with my thinking than I would ever have thought possible. I even referred to that (I think) in my eulogy at her funeral.
