OH DEAR !
I don't have any awful memories about the changing rooms, other than the fact that, before being caned by LM Carey, he instructed you to "Go and Change" --- this meant into rugby shorts, as the cane would have had little effect on Housey trousers !
Further --- One had to return to the Changing Room, to drop said shorts and be inspected by One's contempories, to see how cross he had been. --- this was measured by the spacing, on the Bottom, of the weals --- the closer together, the degree of crossness !
I was pleased to be able to swing --without touching the floor-- between the longer didtance between cross bars ---
this will mean nothing to those who never saw them --- but it was admired at the time !

No I was not Hairy -- and never have been !

Hardly smelly (except the odour of terror!) but that reminds me of sitting on those bars (they were so high that you had to jump to touch them) and then falling backwards without using hands. Of course the floor was wooden parquet - a bit hard if you got the timing wrong, which nobody ever dared to**. Of course there was always hanging vertical from them, swinging once and ending up vertical with the bar at waist level before rolling forward. ISTR that there were some folk who would hook the other bar with their knees during that manoeuvre.
We would move between the closer pairs of bars but to get from one end to another - the mind boggles.

** I did get it wrong in the gym once and the quack has just warned me that I might have to have the results sorted out with a hacksaw and files!

I look back, with nostalgia, on some of the stupid "Made-up" games, which we played ---- Life was a good deal more Innocent then.
Does anyone remember "Roller skate Hockey" ? played on the asphalt at the back and between the A and B houses , with a tennis ball and walking sticks.
I believe I received more minor injuries from that --- than from Rugby !
