Whatever will fit in the dishwasher goes in the dishwasher. I have just put the pan I cooked and mashed the spuds in (stainless steel) in the dishwasher.

EXCEPT, the non-stick omelette pan (because it ruins the non-stick), the iron wok and the Sabatier knife (because they go rusty).

Everything goes in mine, including the non-stick frying pan, the wok and the sharp knives. But, I have noticed that my non-stick is no longer non-stick, the wok is ruined and the knives have, indeed, gone rusty in places. Now I know why

I have noticed the spider catcher in the Lakeland catalogue. I should think that it is highly unlikely that I would know where to find it when I needed it! I think I shall stick to my jar with a lid system, or just doing the helpless female thing and screaming for the nearest available man!

That is a very good point, and one that I hadn't thought of! Also, what if the spider was blocking my route to the Lakeland catcher? I would need lots of them, at least one in every room, wouldn't I? And that would be expensive

Sharp knives --- Beware !
IMMEDIATELY after use, mine are washed (hot water ready) wiped and SHARPENED ready for the next use.
Blunt knives cut more people than sharp ones --- because they slip.
I use an old-fashioned Steel, to produce a razor sharp edge, --- I don't trust these new-fangled magnetic gadgets -------

Of course, I should mention that all my knives are converted Bayonets and Cavalry Sabres !

Well since it's your Birthday I think you should have the night off and let Jan wash up! Or better still, go out for a meal and a few drinks (for a change). Hope you're having a lovely day

Someone has just pushed a Betterware catalogue through my letterbox. On the first page there is something called a Betta Bug Katcha, costing £4.99 (much cheaper than Lakeland!)so I have ordered one. It says that the handle extends to 58 cm - not sure if that is long enough, depending on the relative velocity of the spider! Also in the catalogue is a Spider Stop spray which claims to contain natural chestnut extracts and clover leaf oil. It says 'spray around doors, windows and other areas where spiders may get in' - not sure the bottle is nearly big enough, and I don't have sufficient knowledge of spider psychology, so I am not ordering that one. Perhaps I could just scatter conkers around the place?

I used to have a Betta Bug Katcha (if it's the one I'm thinking off, where you trap the spider, then twist the Katcha to make the cover fall down and contain it). Unfortunately the handle was never long enough for me!!!!! Plus, I was always shaking too much to keep the Katcha still I like the sound of the spray though, I'm going to try that one - I'm going to bulk buy!

You do realise that just ordering the thing probably means that I shall never see another spider?! I could do with a spider just now - the whole house seems to be swarming with flies - probably because I have been stirring up dust etc, moving furniture and 'stuff' to make a clear passage through from front to back because tomorrow the concrete is going to be laid for our new shed - more like a workshop really. (This is one of the problems of living in a terraced house - everything has to come through the house.) My husband is due to retire in about 18 months, and I have high hopes of locking him and all his paraphernalia in the workshop out of my way, and getting the house looking rather less like a cross between Steptoe's backyard and the aftermath of a jumble sale. My front room - the largest room in the house - has been serving as a storage unit for months/years. Now both my daughters are threatening to come here for Christmas along with (by then ...... watch this space) three grandchildren, so we need to get it all looking reasonably normal, childproof and hygienic. Little progress happens when 'himself' is around, so I am hoping to make maximum use of the time when he is in Finland for three weeks in late July/early August - to meet his new grandson and watch the Tall Ships, not necessarily in that order. But how do I persuade him to leave me with access to enough cash to pay for it all without actually 'giving the game away'?

If you do a boot fair while he's away, you'll not only get rid of all his stuff that you don't want anymore (aka clutter!), but raise some money for yourself

Oh no, Neill, don't tell me you've got 'treasured possessions' too! It's all clutter, get rid of it!!! If you haven't used it/looked at it/given it a second thought in the last 5 years THROW IT!!!!!! Or better still, sell it! And, if it's so 'treasured' that you couldn't say for sure where you last saw it, it's clutter!

Lonelymom I tell myself that about clutter all the time, in between both my daughters telling me the same thing ad nauseam. However I cannot get my husband to agree. A lot of his clutter is tools which I am hoping that he will actually use once he has his workshed - if he doesn't at least they will be out of my way! Also we buy the necessary materials for a particular DIY job and then it doesn't happen. Car boot sales are fine in theory, but they do require access to a car, a driver, some muscle, and an iron will not to buy more stuff than you have sold! The last time that we made a serious attempt to shift some of the accumulated clutter, we found that some of it had been discovered by a mouse! I bet you are scared of mice too, but I see them as cute little furry things - just a hamster plus a tail really, and cannot bring myself to kill them - I just wish they would stay out of the house, and one way to ensure that they have nowhere to hide is to shift the piles of 'treasures' - I really don't care if the new shed is full of spiders, mice and frogs!
