Is the scaffolding still there?John Knight wrote:I see that there is scaffolding at the top half of the Water Tower and am wondering if any member here knows when it is scheduled to be removed.
The reason I ask is because I have a ticket for a 'Hot Air Balloon' flight. If we can get the right wind direction to track over the school it would be better to wait for the scaffolding to be removed before we fly - It would spoil the photographs of the very place I used to go with my 'master key' - all those years ago - Ha!

I was down for a reunion on Friday 5th May and it was still there then John.John Knight wrote:Is the scaffolding still there?John Knight wrote:I see that there is scaffolding at the top half of the Water Tower and am wondering if any member here knows when it is scheduled to be removed.

We hope to fly the Hot Air Balloon this evening at about 6 pm.
Depending on the wind direction we might make it over the school or even take off from CH.
yep, i've been in. at first it was just a concrete slab over the top which needed about 3-4 people to budge, it took ian pinder about three seconds on his own. legend.Great Plum wrote:Lots of people went to Sharpenhurst in the past - I believe they have now concreted over the entrance...darthmaul wrote:I believe water has not been kept up there for a few years - they drained it when they realised it would be unnecessary, owing to the internal systems run throughout the school.
Of course, Sharpenhurst is also empty...has anyone been in it? I think perhaps it is a goal to be achieved...
As for the water tower, it may well be for the next 6 months...
I was up there not that long ago - it is still blocked by the breeze blocks alas.DavebytheSea wrote:I gather that somebody had walked up there a couple of days ago. He is convinced that there will be a service tunnel up there (see the rumour on the tube thread if it is still around) as he does not see how else the pipework to supply the school could have been maintained. This would be in accordance with the way the original builders used tunnels to the Sicker, station etc. to service the utilities. Of course, the tunnel might have been rather small ........
A wedding reception in the water tower? How novel!Great Plum wrote: As for the water tower, it still has its hat of scaffolding but I think there is less than there was. I am hoping it comes down in time for my wedding reception the 3rd June!
