Yesterday Spain stopped so that we could all watch the match, which was great because it was worth watching and celebrating afterwards; even if most Spanish were amazed that their team could actually play good football.Mrs C. wrote:Tea time here at CH has been rescheduled today so everyone can watch this afternoon`s match without missing tea!
Talk about pessimists, they had changed the lyrics of the team song to "Cero, Cero" in anticipation of the result. Hence the surprise.
Off to watch Costa Rica (wife and sons are Costa Ricans) and then must gird myself for the drama of watching England underperform yet again. Personally I hope that England either play well or get beaten. The media hype is getting me down.

No, Spain is rapidly going to run out of steam, in my opinion. I'm favouring the Czechs...emotionally I root for the French, but they have a snowflakes' chance in hell .... lovely guys but a trifle age-challenged this time around !

Having lived in Argentina, Spain, Costa Rica, Holland and England, my loyalties are divided, so I look to those who are playing the best football.
Judging from Argentina's demolishing of Serbia and Spain's of the Ukraine, both of which were expected to put up some resistance, Spain and Argentina are somewhat ahead of the rest. They appear to be the only teams who recognise that the object of the game is to get the ball in the back of the opponents goal and they both seem to enjoy doing it.
Long may they survive and continue to play that way.
As I said to my son, who has emigrated to Sweden, the Swedes seem to be ruining everything they touch, the Swedish team by forgetting where the goal is and a Swedish manager who has turned a lot of talented players into also rans.

There is talk now of dropping the boy Owen and playing Shrek and the beanpole up front. On yesterday's performance I think Lampard should be dropped and Shrek should play as a third striker behind the boy Owen and Lofty....
My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We’ll see about that.

Marty ! You didn't tell me you were going to be on the coaching squad after Sven (Ulrika-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka) Ericson walks away with a nice fat pension after the competition ?marty wrote:There is talk now of dropping the boy Owen and playing Shrek and the beanpole up front. On another matter the Czechs beat the US 3-0 it was great!!

Nah, all England have to do is find the wizard and get him to remove the spell that puts a force field in front of the goal every time Lampard shoots.marty wrote:There is talk now of dropping the boy Owen and playing Shrek and the beanpole up front. I passed a car with 7 (7!!!) England flags on it today...
At least another week of the brat next door thinking he's some dodgy footballer and kicking balls into our garden.
Then the moronic 'Ingerland' chants will be emanating from the local pub next Saturday.
Time for a 'Grumpy Old Gits' thread, I think.......
