I really want to come to OBs day next year with the family, but it's so far! So, two thoughts:
1) A minibus (or, optimistically, a coach) to transport the SW OBs who want to go? (organised by ourselves)
2) Would 'they' let us camp on Big Side for a night?

We'll be there - and there is a Travelodge at Billingshurst we could take over for the night; the room rates are quite cheap if one books really early.

Re. coach, perhaps this could be organised via the section heads in each region.

I know that there are plenty of Old Blues down your way - are you in touch with the head of the Devon section?

How fortuitous! I never joined the OBs club so hadn't (haven't!) got a clue what's happened over the years. Let's just say that finding you all here was serendipity.

In regards to '2', the Scouts have often had a big do in Shelley Wood and a lot of the younger Old Blues stay up in the woods or the older ones and parents camp on the Pony Pitches...

Hmmm, I can't see the school being too keen on people camping.

Security issues, lack of sanitation etc.

Daughter no. 2 is currently being potty trained, so perhaps we all use the potty!

They have had 50/60 using the Pony Pitch and the same number in the wood 2 years ago...

They used the Pavilion for showers etc...

I'd love to come to an OBs day, if only to meet some of the charming people on this forum. This would be on the condition that I will not be pressed onto a potty, or even have to look at or touch one - I had years and years of all that malarkey while my 3 children were small, and feel I have done my bit.

I do often work on weekends but maybe it's time I did my first OB day nearly 30 years after leaving.

There'll be none of that potty stuff if I have anything to do with it (although I'm struggling to imagine why anyone would want to press you onto one).

Still, the general idea is that you'll be able to bring the family if you want to, and with a bit of luck there'll be enough for them to do while Daddy takes a nostalgic shuffle round his old smoking haunts.

I have to warn you, though, that the old tree in the Bird Sanc. which everyone used to sit on is long gone...........

On page 2 of this thread people were discussing camping on big side and you spoke about that being unlikely due to lack of sanitation and Canteen Cath said (9.53pm Fri July 7th 2006) her 2nd daughter was being potty trained and that perhaps we should all use her potty. If you ask me she's the one that's potty!
