yeah me too. but then we're the people who've spent most of today, and plently of time on other days, posting on a CH forum. Which suggests we're at the end of the scale of people who are proud/happy/comfortable/whatever it is with the school and the fact we went there.
So makes sense we're the ones with the photos and the bibles. for the record though it happens I didn't have such a great time there, but there you go.

Well I was certainly very pleased to leave. Both times. But this forum is nice. It sort of puts some demons to rest and it's nice to retain an arms length connection.

yeah I like that, putting demons to rest. I think that's exactly the right sentiment.

My Bible (1955) is the RV (and contains the Apocrypha) - my grandfather's (1886) which sits alongside it in my bookshelf is King James and contains the Book of Common Prayer (Cranmer).

My son Jonathan (who is keen on rocketry) has been forbidden to take his exothermic collection within the school grounds.

To be sure, in older old blue's houses, I have noticed these items have been clearly displayed. and er.. <cough> they're on display in my study, gathering dust; along with my Queen's Scout certificate. Does that mean I'm old too?
Sad really.
Definitely as sad as me
Print of CH boy (ca 1800). D of E Gold (not acknowledged by CH), Queens Scout (ditto), bible, two photos (one in CH uniform aged about 10, one in Scout Uniform abseiling at Stone Farm Rocks - without school permission!) all in bedroom

I got a bible and a prayer book when I left. Haven't opened either since 1988

My bible has the presentation sticker upside down stuck at the back of the book

I got a bible on the day I left. I have only opened it once to read the sticker inside and they had mis-spelled my name!

We had a choice of prayer book or concordance, and I chose a concordance.
We have a number of different bibles and a Koran.
No pictures of me in uniform, it wasn't very photogenic.

I'm pretty sure it was only the Monitresses who had either of these, Mary. You were expected to choose the concordance if you were non-conformist and had not been confirmed. Liz Richards, whose Dad was a an OB Methodist Minister, told me this when she had wanted the prayer book!

I meant to say that about Monitresses.
I was non-conformist but already had a prayer book so I chose the concordance.
Surely if you had been confirmed you were given a prayer book then (usually white if I remember) why on earth would you want another?

Apologies or my lack of knowledge, but what's a concordance?

Big reference book. Tells you where you can find specific words in a book - usually the bible. You can also get similar cross referency things for Hymn books too (she says trying to get it back on topic) - which is fine until they start changing the words so they're more PC - or you find one with really good words, but the possible tunes are far to obscure to use. Not singing How Shall I sing to Coe Fen used to confuse me for years.

OK - thanks...
I didn't realise that How shall I sing was sung to other tunes...
