I'm 23 and nowhere near the housing malarkey or growing up! Think I'm going to travel the world and be an old cat woman.
But when you do get a house can I come to your housewarming party?

Thanks, all, for taking the time to reply.
Although BCN is nice, I feel the need for a change - I'm getting bored here. Also, potential job offer is a definite step up the career ladder, which is clearly unavailable in Spain , for age & gender reasons.
I imagine my new company would be prepared to act as guarantor, if required, although at my age that may be less of an issue. The rents you indicate are about what I expected
Anyway, will let you know how things progress - would be nice to be able to finally meet you all !

Don't underestimate the amount of work an old house might need. A new kitchen is not a little job!blondie95 wrote: a lovely Victorian cottage that needs a little work i.e new kitchen and carpets
Re. Essex. There are some nice little villages, with period properties dotted about if you're into that sort of thing, Euterpe13.

A 'little victorian cottage' in Kent would cost you nearly a quarter of a million these days Amy!cj wrote:Don't underestimate the amount of work an old house might need. Agreed; this sounds far far too cheap. Given the price is there a plan for a motorway through the lounge? Eurotrain through the bathroom? Take-offs from Manston through the bedroom? Grade I listed? (or, knowing your sense of humour, is it a doll's house?Great Plum wrote:are you sure - make sure you get a proper survey done!
If it sounds too good to be true then it almost certainly is. Best of luck

Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

Lack of parking!!!! 1 off-road, and 1 on!!! A house like that round here woyuld set you back at least £185,000.
However occassionally you get someone who wanrts a 'poor' young person/couple to have a house. We had a chap about 5/6 years ago who sold his house at least £20K less than it was worth, partly becasue the people doing it were police officers. He was moving to where housing was cheaper.
The difference those two have nade in the area is phenomenal. They have got both Meighbourhood Watch and a Residents Association up and running. They do summer Feters, christmas Parties and everything in-between.
I hope the guy who sold to them is still in touch with someone in the area so he knows.
