I have, in all seriousness, been confronted with Blondie's "Hangin' on the telephone" whilst on hold. Credit where it's due, at least they had a sense of humour.
On another occasion I was so wound up by the on-hold music that when I finally got through I complained endlessly about how crap the music was. I think the parting comment from me was "stick to bl**dy Greensleaves", and at the other end it was "I'll be sure to pass on your comments aboot that". If we don't make a fuss, the situation will never improve...
