On the Shelf....

Post by Angela Woodford »

She just doesn't get mentioned now. It's a shame.

This is the cousin , Floppy(Bot).

She's non-CH, in fact went to a inner-city comprehensive with bright City boys, so she never logs onto the Forum.

Floppy(Bot) found a job in computers early on. Nepotism's really rather terrific! Google(Bot), though not needing to work herself, had some great contacts. The fact is that Floppy(Bot) wasn't actually very clever herself but, introduce her into any situation, and she could remember everything - just like that! It made her so popular initially. She was welcomed everywhere. For a shy girl she achieved enormous success! She just slotted in. Everyone enthused over Floppy(Bot) - she was divinely slender too - vital statistics three and a half inches everywhere.

Then rumours within the computer world caught up with her. Poor Floppy(Bot)! It was gossiped about that, whilst doing her fab tasks of remembering everything, she might also spread some sort of virus when welcomed everywhere! Suddenly she was spoken ill of by the group at the water cooler/at those all-day meetings/ even at IT conferences and technology planning groups. The industry she loved rejected her.   Anyway, this virus thing .

She goes to tea with Google(Bot) occasionally, when she dusts herself off - being firmly on the shelf, discarded, and even hiding in drawers. Yahoo(Bot) doesn't speak really - well you got to move on.

(Sorry, Jo!)

I met a new member of the family today MSN(Bot), she was with her friend Yahoo(Bot) at the forum I mentioned before - but Google(Bot) had moved on.

Seriously, that forum has just upgraded its software so that it now looks very like this one.

Katharine! Are you able to reveal the hobby with which this other forum deals? I'm amazed if Yahoo(Bot) has taken to some creative occupation for a change. Oh well, makes a change from being slung out of wine bars, I suppose. Interesting MSN(Bot) there too. A dear girl. Didn't know the two got on.

Trying to remember the words of "Sweets for my Sweet".

Google (Bot) loves this song!

Sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey
Your first sweet kiss thrilled me so
Sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey
I'll never ever let you go

If you wanted that star that shines so brightly
To match the stardust in your eye
Darling, I would chase that bright star nightly
And try to steal it from the sky
And I would bring

Sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey
Your first sweet kiss thrilled me so
Sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey
I'll never ever let you go

And on for several more delicious verses

Angela, you and Kerren, are the only ones on the forum who may be able to guess what it is! Let me say enigmatically that I am not sure SWMNBN would totally approve of what I do!!!

Aha! I'm guessing.....

Of course SWSNBN would approve! That righteously pursed mouth would pucker in mute approbation - the chins would quiver, and the currant-bun eyes would grow more beady. You might not actually get commended, but still! MSN(Bot) never had to suffer SWSNBN - just as well.

What a nickname for a (Bot) - Multi Skilled Needlewoman!

Angela please write a book the adventures of Google (Bot), it would be a Christmas best seller. SWMNBN would approve, you certainly have me in stitches. (Geddit?)

Every time I see the term 'Googlebot', I can't help imagining a top shelf publication which finds its way into a plain brown paper-bag !

I think all the (Bots) feel this is a sore point. But they've had to learn to live with it. A learning curve indeed. As a name it takes some beating... Particularly poor Floppy(Bot).

Many a slip between name and hip.

Just noticed Yahoo(Bot) is with us again. I'm not sure if Angela is right-- I think it's a he, and is the black sheep of the family, who only gets online when the rest of them are not looking, but I am open to correction.
