A friend of mine is the Finance Director for an NHS hospital trust.
When he went for the snip, the surgeon is poised over him and asks "and what do you do Mr Turner?"
AND My husband's cousin was 'done' and next day young son leaps on the bed at crack of dawn, as young sons are wont to do, scream from Dad, son whips off the duvet, Mum says something along the lnes of 'Daddy hurt himself playing cricket'.
Later at toddler group news circle, ........you can guess the rest.

Just noticed this;
weekly baths with the water no higher than the line. It was just about deep enough to cover a recumbent ankle - about 5 inches and tepid if you were lucky (I think Col B halfinched all the hot water - they were closer to the boilers).
As for the showers downstairs, for my first 5 years they didn't work; we simply had to wash in basins (including sitting in them).
What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!!!

Juniors used all the hot water so sixth form always got cold baths.
No nose blowing (I do remember this being in a copy of the Blue of my era tho') but our housemistress (Mrs Winstone) gave us 2 senokot for the first three Saturday nights each term in case the change in the water made us constipated.
Also in the winter the lowest 2 years got a spoonful of malt a day after breakfast.
Was this only in 2's?
we never had malt in 5's.... and the seniors had the hot water first! sometimes I would get up at 6am just to have a bath in peace and quiet - I was never told off for this - weird - 5 mins after lights out and you were in trouble - an hour before the morning bell - no problem! We weren't given anything for the constipation either.. The water made my hair SO greasy!

Pretty sure we had showers in 2's - I do remember the bath on the !st floor was one of those old metal things with legs - had a big brown area where it had rusted near the plug
