Looking through the posts, with Woolies selling at 50% or more off (and may not even survive Xmas I'm not surprised at the wolves snapping.

No decorations here yet - we will put up the cards (on maroon tapes) but since we will be away it hardly seems worth it.

OTOH we do have a major event on the Sunday between the 12th and 20th December (the 14th this year) with a mass followed by reception / party for the family and friends - an invite list of over 120 and probably 70 will come. No, we don't have jerrais cidre bouche, only the wine we get at the domaines and carry over here, fruit and preserves from the farm and the rest from Costco :x It's a good day being the only time that peeps would see each other (and they save on Christmas card postage, the mean lot!)

Jo; no. Freecycle is not Essex enough to get here!

Angela:
Is there some kind of deep seated Freudian reason that because we were dislodged in childhood we have subconsciously sought stability in adulthood or am I spouting nonsense?
Definitely; after a junior movement or more I don't want to move again; too much hassle and the idea of clearing the loft :( :( :( :( Only been here about 30 years - the schools were good when we came and now her friends are around here. OTOH I look forward to the annual migration to the farm - it is far more comfortable.

Have not seen any thread on Christmas yet and as it's St.Nicholas today, thought I'd start the ball rolling with an open discussion on anything to do about Christmas 2008: your cooking tips, present ideas etc etc
Where I used to work an employee of the landlord (Den norske bank) collected recipes from people throughout the building and published them for charity. Wide selection from many countries but I'm not sure where my copy is. Anyone here want to try?

Over here in the Grand Old Duchy, Stollen (and of course around most germanic countries) is the Christmas cake equivalent and a lot lighter too. If anyone has a good receipe for that I am a taker...

The Christmas thing which I've always wanted is a mould for a round Dickensian-style Christmas Pudding.

I think these puddings look fantastic. I've found some online, but they are rather expensive. Maybe next year!

Angela, have you tried Lakeland? I know they used to do one.

Maggie! Yes, I tried Lakeland, but they don't have them! Maybe we could splurge online on the pudding steamer of my dreams... have also remembered a steamed chocolate pudding I used to make with a liquid chocolate middle :D !

Anyway, I've made an exciting new stuffing for this year. I'm pleased with it.

Well wrapped up and safely the other side of the camera.

OK, here's a Christmas recipe. We sang Prans du housse ("Deck the halls") while we were out carolling that evening, and since that carol includes mention of chaûdé (cider flip in English?) - here's the recipe:

Image
Chaûdé
Heat 1 glassful of cider in a saucepan - don't boil. Heat 3 quarters of a glassful of milk in another pan - but don't boil. Take the milk off the heat and whisk in 2 beaten eggs. Pour in the hot cider. Whisk it up and pour.

(In other news and totally off-topic: I was re-elected to my municipal seat this evening. Santé! Cheers!)

CHAZ - you have a little boy? Does Father Christmas do the same stuff in Luxembourg?

I do really miss having children about at Christmas!
