It's much the same in local politics as well, Neill. I occasionally have a drink with a couple of local Councillors

Very illuminating.

For me, it has to be the 'Arab' and the 'Tent' syndrome, but as far as politics are concerned, I want to be OUTSIDE the tent !

Neil, my cousin was a councillor in Plymouth, taking the Tory Whip for many years although she was (no longer) a natural liberal democrat - she just couldn't stand the dirty tricks the LD's got up to while spouting 'holier than thou' attitude when they were sure they would never be in power.

Unfortunately all of a sudden they won a load of council seats and had to make good on some of their wilder promises.....

I am well aware of those behaviours, I am quite certain that they will not find anything in my history worse than what is in the tabloids most weeks (but I suppose they could just make it up!)

BTW, I only want the salary and perks, not the job

We have one Black Sheep, in our Family ----
He had to wait until his Father died, before he could become a Consrvative ----- and Mayor of Salisbury !
Since we have been Liberals, since we were Whigs, the Old Man would have cut him off without a shilling !

When asked to stand for Election, I was asked if I agreed with Liberal Democrat Policies ? ----- I replied "Not all of them !"
Despite my obvious unsuitability, I ended up as a Dorset County Councillor and Chairman of East Dorset District Council ---
I am very "Ageist" about Councillors -- and I believe that, like Magistrates, they should be forced to retire at 70 -- otherwise they get to the "Eh? What ? -- what did he say ---- ZZZZ !!" stage and younger candidates don't get a chance.
I practiced what I preached and did'n't stand at the next Election after I was 70.

(This was good for the Ego --- 3 elections and never defeated ! )

Sorry -- a little story -- I went to the Bournemouth Civic Day -- wearing my Chain-- and accompanied by a gorgeous Blonde of 20, on my arm --wearing the Escorts Chain ---- It was my Grand-daughter -- but to this day -- none of the "Chain Gang" know who the Blonde was ----- Rumour was rife, and my Wife enjoyed the subsequent tactful enquiries from the others !

You see you CAN have fun in Politics !

With the latest news from No 10 ----- I rest my case ! :axe:

You have no idea of the Dirty Tricks which obtain during Elections.
The Opposition ---- whoever that may be at the time ---spend a great deal of time delving into "Records" including those of your Parents and Ancestors, hunting for something embarrassing, which can be leaked (Without attribution of course !) to the (Appropriate ) Press.
Interesting article recently in the electronic version of PC Pro (No, JR not that type, pleeeeeaaaase  )

As from a few days ago your ISP is required to keep details of every web site you visit, every email you send and every message you receive (including this one) and YOU are required to pay the cost of that (via your taxes).
Absolutely no doubt that in a few weeks time those details will be being used by Gordon Brown for nefarious purposes like deciding that you are a danger to him (perhaps by advocating that another candidate beat him in the next election) and are therefore a terrorist worthy of being dumped in a dungeon never to be heard of again.

Not a million miles from me, just off th A.25 is a property owned (?), by B.T.

It has a double fence, razor wire and allegedly patrolled by dogs at night.

I found out quite recently, it is a 'listening-post' to monitor mobile phone calls by B.T.

(For B.T. read H.M. Government ?)

I wonder if El Plummo, (a.k.a. Matt), knows where I mean ?

I thought that a modern "Dungeon" is merely a Transit Camp , when applied to illegal Immigrants !
