Anybody who has been married for, say, 30 years and insists there was "Never a cross word between us " is either, a doormat, or has been separated for 29 of them !

Of course we all have Quarrels---- we are all different people -- including our partners, so we don't always "Fit"
A good piece of advice was given to me when I first married in 1952 "Never let a quarrel last overnight ! ------ Even the Divorce didn't !

I have tried to follow it for the last 34 years --- with SOME success !

Once bitten and all that. If you're going to be moaned at anyway you might as well save the money!
Oh dear, I do sympathise! Once, when beloved unexpectedly brought home a bouquet, I somewhat waspishly asked "What's THAT for?" His poor face hit the floor, & he slammed it down saying "Because I love you, that's what it's FOR", and stomped off. Actually I thought I must have forgotten an anniversary, which isn't like me at all but I was beginning to fret about possible memory loss etc. Anyway, when I explained, he calmed down a bit, but I don't think he's ever forgotten! The next anniversary is Aug. 12th. ("the glorious twelfth" as we call it, the day we first met in 1994) - he always remembers that ....?

Ours is coming up on August 18 (36 years) and we still bicker a lot more than we should.

Our 25th took place when we were living in Buenos Aires but always spent August in our house in Spain. The wife and kids had gone on ahead as usual and I was to fly out later to spend a couple of weeks and have a small celebration with friends at the same time.
My boss was at his house in Spain when a crisis blew up in the office. We were running late on the Y2K IT effort and my IT manager resigned. I phoned my boss, who was on the beach at the time, explained the problem and that until I got a replacement, I would get more involved in Y2K.
He insisted that I cancel my holidays and stay full time in BA. When I told him that I could reduce my time away but that I had my 25th anniversary which I wanted to be at, he said I could cancel that as well!
I flew anyway and only spent a week in Spain, and he later tried to fob me off by saying that he meant we could cancel the celebration and not the anniversary, but he really was a pretty poor human specimen.
This from someone who we met in a hotel in Iguazu, when he was meeting his Paraguayan mistress whilst his wife was in the UK. That time he was just trying out his new car.

What a b*****d! There were quite a few of that ilk in the Civil Service - "people-skills" not their forte, & proud of it, & rather too many lechers among them! My daughter had to go to a conference in Brazil back in 2000, & husband & 1-year-old son went too. They took him on a boat trip to see the Iguazu Falls but I don't think he was too impressed at that age! Funnily enough the reason I joined this forum was because when he rang me a couple of weeks ago to thank me for his birthday present ( 10th! I can't believe it!) he said he was going to be sitting the entrance exam for the Bluecoat School. I told him I'd been at a Bluecoat school too - but nothing more, didn't want to discourage him! But it's the Liverpool one he meant, a day school specialising in science & maths., & it went co-ed a year or so ago. Apparently the only way you can get in is by exam. but he didn't seemed too worried. How different from me at that age!

34th for us on 6th September, but we no longer celebrate. However the week before we shall be in Yorkshire going racing at Sedgefield, cricket at Scarborough and football at Doncaster, and the weekend after we shall be in Dublin for the Greyhound Derby. (I wonder why my bro'in law can't go as he has for the last 6 or 7 years).

Guess who picked the venues!

Maria, do you realise that your CH-starting date is a palindrome, if such a term can be applied to numbers?
