English Angel - thank you for the info about the Avon stuff - I had never thought of looking at it online, but I shall certainly rush to order it from my regular Avon lady, who is a friend at church who is always kind enough to warn me when any of my regular products (all three of them) are coming up on special offer. I see there is also a Sleeptherapy Dreamy Body Wash - maybe I'll try that too.

I have no idea if it works but someone once recommended a fresh basil leaf sandwich made with wholemeal bread...

Irritatingly, I'm one of those who can down a cup of espresso and then do 8 hours sleeping alonside the righteous! However HWMBI will wake up if a leaf falls off the tree in the front garden and lie there tense and stressed until the dawn hours- until that is (although I confess that it was said in pure irritation at the complaining) I said, "why don't you just accept that your body or your brain has had enough? Get up, read a book while snuggling under a blanket on the dofa, watch tv something funny if u can, not dire or complex - lots of haruumphing later (and several nights) he confessed that he did just that, got up instead of lying there stewing on his inability to sleep while I snored (oh Lord, gently I hope) beside him! The next night, or the one after, his body adjusts to the tiredness and he goes to bed earlier and does 9+ hours round the clock!

The last couple of weeks i have had far from the best nights sleep, unfortunatly our victorian terrace cottage has incredibly thin walls, we can hear our neighbours go up and down the stairs, turn on light switches and conversations! They have an 18mth old boy who since they moved in about 9mths has very rarley not slept through the night, however the last couple of weeks he has been awake at least twice in the night screaming! And it seems no matter what mum and dad do it oes no good. But last night, he did not wake up once I had 9 hourse uninterrupted sleep!

So I hope that you have felt more refreshed today, Amy? I too have noisy semi detached neighbours (Mum, Dad, one boy aged 2.5 and the other 1.5)but they all go to bed around 9 (much earlier than me - sometimes I am not even home by then!) and they surface about 6.30. While that is earlier than I do, I am usually coming into wakefulness about that time anyway, to visit the bathroom. After that I am conscious of their feet thundering up and down their stairs and from about 7.30 their back door is open and if the weather is good the children are out in the garden, with their piercing voices and imitations of seagulls, but somehow I seem able to accept and ignore all that and to sleep on until it is time for me to get up!
Actually I am glad you joined this posting because I was going to revisit it to ask if Katharine had found any benefit from the acres of advice given on this thread, and whether Frances had managed to sleep better with her memory foam mattress topper?
I did in fact yestereday have a delivery of the Avon pillow mist, and sleep balm (as well as the sleepy bodywash stuff which I did not use last night).I went of to sleep straight away (10.15 or so) but was wide awake again by 12.30, then it was in and out of sleep for the rest of the night!

I haven't started taking anything, yet. Things have been a bit better, but not much. I am trying the muscle relaxing and that seems to help. I have been getting back to sleep far more quickly than when I first posted (would still like it to be better!)
As I predicted, High Season is proving very busy at work, North Wales is busy this tourist season. We think this is because people are not travelling abroad so much but who can tell?

Sounds like 'night terrors' to me, Amy. Unfortunately he'll probably have them from time to time, and there's not really anything his parents will be able to do to prevent them

If your neighbour's child is going through the 'night terrors' stage, it may also be that the parents are at their wits' end and might appreciate some kind words of offers of help?
On the subject of the mattress topper - I haven't actually used it yet - when I finally unpacked it I discovered that it needs to air for 48 hours and the cover needs to be washed at 30 degrees before use, to get rid of the smell of the fire retardent used by law. I shall report back in due course!

There are not so many British registered cars as usual around here though gite bookings by Brits seem to be about the same. That said, about 80 to 85% of cars on the road are grockles, mainly from around Paris.

Fortunately, I've never suffered !
I'm usually 'gone' within a minute of turning the bed-side light off !

DR had a "treatment" for anyone (ie me) looking tired through lack of sleep. " stop prep 30 mins early then go to bed 30 mins after that" BRILLIANT. I would then lie awake half the night worrying about the prep I hadn't done.
Needless to say, I married a fellow insomniac!

Like JR -- I'm "Gone" within a milli-second of hitting the pillow --
My Babies tell me that they sometimes wake, screaming, in the night --- they are 56 and 51 ----
I wonder why that can be ?
Before anybody else says it ------- It was NOT their upbringing !
