Let your courgettes get to full size then cut off leaving plenty of stem. Remove any remains of the flower. Light a candle and drip wax over the end and a little down the sides of the stem ensuring it is airtight. (You may have to repeat next day). This works equally well with marrows but I haven't tried punpkins.
