I thought Eve had two sons ---- Cain and Abel, Genesis doesn't mention Daughters (Not considered important !!!! ---- watch out for "Incoming" !)
Cain is supposed to be still roaming th eEarth ------ so there might be Grand-Daughters ---- He WAS a bad lot !!

I suppose the Ancient Brits (Several Tribes and districts) moved over to Wales, but there is little historical evidence, of their assimilation.
There was, recently, an investigation of Northumberland and Yorkshire (Careful Neill ----TBA is near !

) which suggested that a significant number contained Viking DNA. Saint Patrick was, of course, a Scottish, Roman Slave !
Are the Cornish Bretons ? or, are the Bretons Cornish ?

I am told that there are connections between Devonian, Cornish, Welsh and Breton. I can't remember if Erse was included in the list but I would expect it to be. In any case, which comes first - the chicken or the egg? the breton or the Cornishman?
Incidentally, the ancestor of a recent Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall was at CH with S T Coleridge and Lamb

but who is raising Cain?
Surely it is against his human rights to say he was a bad lot without him being found guilty in court or if the five years (or whatever) has expired so that his offence is wiped from the record. To prison with you,. Sir, for trying to protect humanity

I cannot believe that even under "Human Rights" Murder can be expunged after 5 years ?????
Of course we do not have the DNA Evidence, which seems to be bringing many to Justice today !!

If Eve had only two sons and no daughters, presumably we are all the product of incest?

I once shared a house with another student, a Cornishman who spoke Cornish. We all went out for a drink - the barman was a Breton - it was amazing to hear them speak and that the two guys understood each other's language!

Welsh, Cornish, and Breton are all part of the same Celtic branch (P-Celtic) and very closely related to each other. Irish and Scots Gaelic. and Manx are a different branch (Q-Celtic) and similar to each other but not mutually intelligible with P-Celtic. The P and the Q labels are to do with how a particular letter in an earlier common language mutated itself into the respective branches as a "p" sound or a "k" sound.
This brings back very apposite CH-related memories of my first experience of the language tree, which Mr Upton had duplicated and put on a noticeboard in the sixth form classics room in Nines. I didn't do Latin A level, but was in the room for something else and was totally enthralled by the visual display of language families and origins. I asked him if I could have a copy and he told me to take the one from the noticeboard and he would bring another copy in. I still have it somewhere.

Living down there, DBTS is my expert on these matters.
Unless I got it wrong, the Welsh can understand the Bretons but not the Cornish, who can understand the Bretons and vice versa.
I´m sure DBTS will make all clear on his next visitation to this thread.

TBA and I were camping in the Bois de Bologne in Paris (Where it is so crowded that the Guy Ropes cross each other )
We were between Rumanians (One of whom spoke German) and New Zealanders.
TBA was having hysterics of laughter, as I was translating from Rumanian German to New Zealand English.
The N Z Contingent had no idea where the North Star was, I pointed it out (They were unimpressed !)
The following Morning Swallows were flying about, and the Rumanians were exclaiming "SVESKA" SVESKA" which, it seems, is Rumanian for Swallow. -- to make the point, they showed me a packet of their cigarettes, with a Swallow on it, and offered me one.
In the interests of cross- culture Relations, I accepted it !
I have to tell you that it was FOUL ! and, I believe contained little tobacco, --- what else, I shudder to think !!!
I stopped smoking in 1980 -- but not because of that experience

We could understand the Breton fishermen when they were forced into Salcome (South Devon) by storms. It's a pity that CH terrified the knowledge of that out of me. I'm waiting to see Vieu Bleu's take on this subject because I suspect that Jerrois is also linked to that group of languages as well as Oil (pre-French)
