In QS one of my sons likes orange crunch and the strawberry ones are always left behind. I prefer Roses myself. My boss has given me (quite a big) box of Guylian seashells today and I will have to hide them from my daughter as they are her particular favourite.

Katharine wrote:As a child these WERE our Christmas sweets. A friend of my Mum's brought us a large tin each year, and that was it. The wrappers were saves and became Christmas decorations the following year, if you tied them on twine they appeared like colourful bows!
This did bring back memories, Katharine! My mother would save the wrappers and make them into bows the next year tied onto a sprayed silver twig "tree".

I've always loved the QS colours. Thank you for that memory!

I can now report that we've had to go out for another tin. Oh dear.

Happy Christmas Maria - while you're there I've been told by the World Service during the night that the "@" sign means "miaow" in Finnish. Is this a Finnish joke?

My mind is preoccupied with my Global Warming themed Christmas Cake, so am inclined to believe anything. The Cake has been terribly at risk throughout its stages of creation.

a) the cat licked the inside of the tin after consuming cod-and-plaice cat food. It might also have had transferred an elusive tang of shrew. Scream! Scrub, scrub, scrub.

b) helpful cat trailed tail over newly melting-ice cake surface

c) current husband laid tea-towel over carefully positioned icicles (you make them from melted glacier mints; see December Good Housekeeping mag) "to save cake from dust" so artificially warmed icicles!

I'm trying to get through to the White House. I need your support, President Obama.

to defeat global warming?
Looks like he is in favour of it - the UK TV reports that he has just used a big jet spewing out tons of carbon in order to get to Hawaii. No wonder you couldn't get through.

As for the cake - jpg pleeeeese

MKM wrote:My favourite Quality Street is the orange crunch. I have a box of Bendicks mints, and a box of chocolate sea shells stashed away for sharing after Christmas dinner. For everyday I like Sainsbury's 85% dark chocolate - it is sold in packs of 5 x 25g bars, which helps with portion control.
I avoid bars of chocolate and the Quality Street type because if I have just one corner I will finish every bar / packet / tin in the house.

That said I did try cooking with Sainsbury's brand chocolate - and the d**n stuff would not melt over hot / simmering water.
Complained and they promised to refund to my wife's nectar card - that was a month ago and we are still waiting! Not worth complaining again - they will just promise and .................... I'm looking for a more reliable supplier

When making your post Neill, click on the arrow beside 'Normal', between 'Flash' and 'Font colour', then make your selection from the drop-down menu. J.

A large jar of chocolate covered brazils has been my undoing. I'm rushing to finish them before the weight starts to go on.
